In addition to its work in education, youth development and critical community needs, The Orfalea Fund sought to raise community standards in early childhood education, school food, and disaster readiness. Seeking systemic change rather than perpetual charity, we designed our philanthropy to achieve ambitious goals and sustainable results in a concentrated and deliberate timeframe before sunsetting the fund in 2015. Three of our most impactful initiatives are shared on this website... The Orfalea Fund helped to bring about new standards in early childhood education, school food, and disaster readiness by doing in-depth research, taking risks to discover what works, bringing together dedicated partners to execute programs, and helping families, educators, and policy-makers raise their expectations for a healthier, more resilient community.
