Angela Tharp

Angela Tharp earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Indiana University. In the two decades since, she has helped IU campuses and units identify, promote, and measure their marketing activities and value. She uses primary, secondary, and best practices research to guide teams toward better outcomes. In 2012 Angela created the IU Panel, the first custom survey panel in higher education. She has facilitated hundreds of focus groups and interviews. As a qualitative researcher for the IU Center for Survey Research, she is designing a study to better understand what helps or hinders participation in major health studies like the IU Grand Challenges Person to Person Health Interview Study. Her work will inform study leaders on stop, start, or change opportunities likely to improve Hoosier experiences and response rates.

Ashley Clark

Ashley Clark is the director of the Center for Survey Research (CSR) and a clinical assistant professor in the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. As director of CSR, Ashley leads a top management team focused on empowering clients with state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative research and leading methodological and management innovation as a top-tier research center. Ashley has more than a decade of experience leading research centers and 20+ years of experience as an applied statistician. In designing, conducting, and analyzing research projects, she has partnered with clients from diverse industries including those in the education, energy, entertainment and recreation, government, health, management consulting, media, non-profit, and sustainability industries. She holds an M.S. in survey methodology from the University of Maryland and a B.A. in sociology from the University of North Carolina.

Cameron Schilling

Cameron is a Graduate Assistant at the Center for Survey Research. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Affairs and Master of Science in Environmental Science dual-degree program from the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. Cameron received his Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from San Diego State University where he was first able to help design, conduct, and analyze both qualitative and quantitative research. There he utilized this research to find his academic and professional passions, at the intersections of equity, food systems, and urban policy.

Erica Moore

Erica Moore is the associate director of the Research Data Management Services Unit, within the Center for Survey Research (CSR), which manages mail surveys, scanning, survey testing, and process improvement for the Center. She also serves as a study director for CSR and has 15 years of survey research experience working with a wide-range of clients in the areas of philanthropy, public health, higher education, technology, and science. Erica is interested in questionnaire design and research involving experiments with recruitment materials. She also enjoys improving processes and training methods.

Inna Kouper

Job Titles:

  • Research Scientist at the IU School of Informatics
Inna Kouper is a research scientist at the IU School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering and the Center for Survey Research. Her research focuses on the history and sociology of knowledge production and dissemination, with a particular emphasis on emerging technologies and data practices. Dr. Kouper has decades of experience in social science research and leads several externally funded projects that create and evaluate cyberinfrastructure, improve data management, and promote openness and transparency in research. She also co-leads the Midwest Big Data Hub and coordinates the early career fellowship program at the Research Data Alliance. At the CSR, Dr. Kouper is a data quality analyst for the Person to Person Health Interview Study, a part of Indiana University's Precision Health Initiative Grand Challenge. Kouper has a PhD in information science from Indiana University Bloomington and a PhD in sociology from the Institute of Sociology, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia.

Jamie Roberts

Jamie Roberts leads the Research Data Management Services unit for the Center for Survey Research (CSR) and has 16+ years of experience managing data processing and mail survey operations for the Center. She also directs a number of large-scale projects, specifically those with paper survey development and mailing components. Her areas of expertise include data processing, high-volume scanning, mass survey mailings, quality control and testing, and process development and implementation. In her role at CSR, Jamie designs approaches that best utilize resources, technological tools, and survey research best practices to ensure our clients receive both cost-effective and high-quality results. Jamie manages the Center's social media and enjoys sharing the exciting work conducted at CSR as well as reaching out to potential future collaborators.

John M. Kennedy

John M. Kennedy is the senior research director of the Center for Survey Research. He directed the Center from 1987 through 2011. He currently teaches a graduate class in survey design and chairs the Indiana University Social Behavioral Human Subjects Committee. He has served on numerous NIH review panels on the ethics of human research. He was the founding editor of Survey Practice sponsored by the American Association for Public Opinion Research. In 2012, he received the Achievement Award from the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations.

Kathleen Lorenzen

Kathleen Lorenzen is a study director for the Center for Survey Research with 8+ years of experience in survey studies, program evaluation, and project management, mostly with clients in the field of education.

Kevin Tharp

Kevin Tharp currently serves as the director of research technologies at the Center for Survey Research (CSR), as well as its senior SQL database developer and special development programmer (CASES, Qualtrics, REDCap, etc.). Kevin holds a B.S. in accounting from the Kelley School of Business and has more than 25 years of experience at CSR, during which time he has been actively involved in the greater survey research community with several presentations made at the American Association for Public Opinion Research annual meeting and International Field Directors and Technologies Conference. He also is serving as Registrar for the International Field Directors and Technologies Conference (IFD&TC).

Mary Ellen Van Booven

Mary Ellen Van Booven is a research associate for the Center for Survey Research and has more than 25 years of health research experience, including quantitative and qualitative projects funded by the federal government, pharma, and private clients. She has managed large, complex data collection projects including focus groups, field studies, and telephone, web, and mail surveys. Mary Ellen has a wide range of experience including project management; field supervision; data collection protocol design; preparation of Institutional Review Board submissions; testing survey instruments and materials; development of standard operating procedures; recruiting, hiring, and training of data collection staff; overseeing quality control activities; and preparing reports.

Monica Dignam

Monica's research career is broad and varied. First as an entrepreneur with more than 25 years as President of Monalco, Inc. a Milwaukee based market research firm founded by her and continuing to operate under new ownership [www.monalco.com]. Later as Managing Director of the ASAE Foundation and Chief Research Officer for ASAE, Washington, DC non-profit focused on research in the area of nonprofit management of professional and trade associations. Monica is a particularly strong research project manager, including client service and reporting. She has extensive experience in survey design and analysis, qualitative research (including focus groups and personal interview studies) and database management. Monica is proficient in SPSS and online survey design using Key Survey. Also, as both an entrepreneur and senior staff member, she was responsible for identifying funding opportunities and writing funding proposals and grants for research projects. Monica is also currently working part-time for the Associate Dean for Research in the School of informatics, Computing and Engineering (SICE). There, she develops print and video marketing materials in support of the faculty research program.

Yulduz Sabirova

Yulduz is a graduate research assistant at the CSR. She is a second year MPA student concentrating on policy analysis. Yulduz received her undergraduate degree in Economics from National University of Science and Technology MISIS in Stary Oskol, Russia and her master's degree in economics from Changchun University of Science and Technology. Before coming to Bloomington, she managed a graduate education advising program with American Councils for International Education in Turkmenistan. During her time at O'Neill, she has become passionate about environmental governance and exploring how policy can help mitigate environmental issues.
