The Committee for Melbourne was founded by Pamela Warrender OAM, who in 1985 brought together a group of passionate Melbourne business and community leaders to champion key initiatives to stimulate the economy and civic development, which put Melbourne on a pathway to become one of the world's most liveable cities... The Melbourne Chamber has played a vital role in business, government and civic life in Melbourne and Victoria. Its history dates back to 12 March 1851 and the ‘counting house' of an accountant, Mr Octavius Brown, established as the gold rush transformed the Australian economy... Committee for Melbourne (the Committee) is the product of a merger between two proud organisations with more than 200 years of representation and advocacy experience - the Committee and the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce (Melbourne Chamber).
