GRAND TRADITIONS VINTAGE DANCE ACADEMY - Key Persons

Cathy Stephens

Job Titles:
  • Artistic Director
  • Instructor
Cathy Stephens has served as the Artistic Director, Instructor and Dance Mistress for Grand Traditions since it was founded. She is also the founder and Director of the Pleasant Moments Vintage Dancers performance company. Cathy is one of the most popular and skillful dance teachers in North America today. As a professional dance instructor, choreographer, and historical dance specialist since 1984, she has traveled extensively teaching and conducting hundreds of dance events for museums and historical sites, festivals, universities and many arts, educational, and recreational organizations. Her ability to create enjoyable and enriching programs and classes in a wide range of dance forms pleases dancers of all levels. In 1990, Arlynn Hacker and Cathy Stephens joined forces to create the Grand Traditions Vintage Dance Academy with the intention of providing an opportunity for dancers to learn and enjoy the popular social dances of our past. Over the years, we have experienced some changes: Arlynn has moved on to pursue career opportunities elsewhere, and we expanded our programs to include more contemporary social dances. However, we continue to maintain our emphasis on the social aspects of dancing as well as the development of dance skills and increased awareness of our dance heritage. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Grand Traditions draws dancers of all skill levels from many areas of the Midwest. Grand Traditions is run by a committee of dedicated dance enthusiasts with Cathy continuing to serve as Artistic Director and instructor.
