  • Senior Consultant ENT Surgeon
Dr Valerie Tay is a senior consultant Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon, who has special interests in breathing and sleep problems, septorhinoplasty, facial plastic surgery, facial nerve palsy and facial rejuvenation. Dr Valerie Tay has vast experience dealing with patients who have all types of ENT, breathing and sleep problems; she does surgery for the nose and sinuses, face and neck (including salivary gland and thyroid surgery) for both adults and children (common problems such as allergic rhinitis, enlarged tonsils and adenoids). Dr Valerie Tay provides patient-centric, personalized care with a focus on patient-empowerment. She is known for her clinical acumen, high level of integrity, surgical precision and compassion for her patients. Dr Valerie Tay graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and was the recipient of the ENT Bookprize - an award for the best student of the year in Otolaryngology. She completed her postgraduate Otolaryngology (ENT) training in Singapore and was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Scholarship in 2012. She pursued advanced sub-specialty training in Facial Plastic Surgery in the renowned Navi Plastic Surgery Clinic, a high volume plastic surgery centre in Seoul, South Korea. After completing her ENT training in Singapore, she felt that facial plastic surgery was a natural progression to broaden her skillsets further. She saw a divide in the provision of patient care in Singapore, that doctors either practised aesthetics or took care of medical problems. Recognizing that a good aesthetic outcome cannot be achieved successfully and safely without structural support and sound anatomical knowledge, she found herself to be in the perfect position to bridge this gap. Her unique training allows her to be able to address both form and function equally well. She spent a year in Seoul learning the most modern and advanced techniques for rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, as well as minimally invasive treatments (fillers, botulinum toxins). As the Chief of the facial plastic surgery service while she was working in the TTSH ENT department, she spearheaded the first Facial Palsy Clinic in Singapore, a multi-disciplinary clinic that provides holistic care of facial palsy patients, offering facial retraining therapy, chemodenervation as well as surgical facial reanimation. Dr Valerie Tay is a well-respected member of the Singapore and ASEAN ENT community. She is also the former President of the Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Singapore. Dr Valerie Tay has been invited to many local and overseas conferences to share her knowledge and expertise. She is a certified trainer for Merz, and has also conducted courses for Galderma and Allergan to train other doctors. She is also an author for chapters in facial plastic surgery textbooks, such as Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is the landmark facial plastic surgery textbook for the Otolaryngology residents in North America. Past appointments Senior consultant, Chief Facial Plastic Surgery service, Otolaryngology department, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Dr Valerie Tay has had a lifelong love of fitness, food and baking. A believer of the saying "How you do the little things is how you do everything", she applies her exacting surgical skills and precision to create beautiful cakes and pastries in her kitchen. She also believes that a regular dose of good food, laughter and regular exercise are the ingredients to a healthy life.
