At our hospital, all desexings receive a pre-anaesthetic evaluation, followed by a premedication to reduce stress and anxiety and to minimise the amount of anaesthetic used. All but the briefest procedures are intubated and maintained on isofluorane gas, which is the safest in veterinary practice. Anaesthesia is monitored by both electronic equipment and experienced nursing staff. All animals have their own sterilised surgical instrumentation kit. A pain killer injection and antibiotic injection are administered routinely and is effective for up to 24 hours.
