While coaching football at The College of New Jersey, in 1988 Kelly was approached by Doug Borden and his father Jack about entering the insurance business. Still coaching football, Kelly saw the day-to-day injuries happening during play and became familiar with the medical expenses they created. Naturally, insurance became the answer to finance the risk. After insurance school and a year of research, Kelly approached The College Of New Jersey with an alternative to their current strategy and Borden Perlman Sports was founded in 1990. Borden Perlman Sports has since become a leader in the field for over 30 years and has clients nationwide. On January 1 st, 2021, CBIZ acquired Borden Perlman thus CBIZ Borden Perlman Sports.
