Abby Celentano graduated from Purdue University in 2022 with a B.A in Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Policy. Initially as a biology major, Abby decided to change the trajectory of her path during her sophomore year once she realized the love she had for nature and the work that still needed to be done within the environmental field. Switching her major ended up being a very impactful change in her college career and led her to many leadership positions for promoting sustainable agriculture. She served as a liaison for AgriNovus Indiana to network with various universities about the opportunities students have within the agbioscience sector. Currently, she works a remote consulting job for an environmental career coach and helps widen the reach of environmental job opportunities in America for students and career changers across the world. Her various experience in outreach and communication led her to the Bren school in hopes of pursuing the Corporate Environmental Management specialization with an Eco-E focus or Communications focus. She hopes to build on her networking skills and help create a business industry that prioritizes sustainable practices, ultimately improving urban sustainability through environmentally and socially equitable efforts.
Adele Colwell graduated with honors from the University of California Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time at the University, she worked in academic and corporate settings. Her passion for scientific application led her to the company Thryve (now Ombre) where she spearheaded the creation of critical data sets for the company and helped run the outreach and education blog. Her interest in environmental science and its applications grew when she worked in the Kapuscinski - Sarker lab group. Within the group, she was in charge of conducting literature reviews on alternative aquaculture feeds for the Aquafeed decision support tool and collaborated with team members to execute the program. Applying her corporate background and scientific knowledge, Adele became a member of a team awarded the Blackstone Launchpad Fellowship. This team created a novel funding mechanism utilizing insurance policies for coral reef restoration and coastal resilience. Adele came to the Bren School to study Corporate Environmental Management to utilize science-based solutions to allow corporations to reach their sustainability goals.

Alexis Grana graduated from the University of California Davis in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Management with a focus on Natural Resource Management. As an undergraduate student, she aided in graduate research about plant-pollinator interactions regarding how the invasive plant, hairy vetch, affects grassland ecosystems and native flora at the UC McLaughlin Reserve. She became interested in sustainability while learning about the effect of animal agriculture on greenhouse gas emissions. At UC Davis, she headed the social media team of a student-led initiative, Aggie Reuse, to bring to light the negative impacts of the fast fashion industry and promote sustainable clothing. Her interests culminated in her group capstone project focused on the effects of salinity on vegetation growth in the San Joaquin Valley. At the Bren school, Alexis specializes in Corporate Environmental Management with a focus in Strategic Environmental Communication and Media. She hopes to bring more environmentally safe practices to the private sector and bring about a more sustainable future for the planet.
Alicia Canales graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2021. During her undergraduate career, she held a curation internship with the UCSB Herbarium assisting with the digitization and georeferencing of plant specimens for use in a National Science Foundation climate change and phenology study at UCSB. However, her passion for preservation grew during her time as a Snowy Plover Docent for the UC Nature Reserve Coal Oil Point where she patrolled Sands Beach to protect plover nesting areas from human and predator disturbance. As a Docent, she saw the positive effects that conservation efforts had and wanted to be more immersed. Later, Alicia provided environmental science education for the Santa Barbara Zoo as an Educator for their summer camp and outdoor programs where she engaged younger generations in learning about their environment. These two experiences influenced her enjoyment of teaching environmental topics while working with all age groups. She plans to specialize in conservation planning to help preserve our natural resources and help bridge the communication gap between planners and the general public.

Allison Horst is an assistant teaching professor and Bren School alumna (PhD 2012). Andrea Carlos graduated from the University of the Philippines - Diliman with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Her interest in environmental education was sparked through courses such as Environmental Economics and Environmental Ethics. Following graduation, Andrea began her career working on sales data analytics for Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, focusing on reports for large-scale retailers in both regional and national key accounts. She later transitioned to human capital consulting for Deloitte Philippines, guiding telecommunication companies through technological and software changes in advancing their workforce. Due to the large scale of these multinational companies and their subsequent impact, Andrea's experience with corporate ways of working drove her environmental curiosity further. She aims to develop a deeper understanding of the adverse effects of mass production and transition this knowledge into determining more feasible and sustainable practices. At the Bren School, Andrea aims to pivot her career towards corporate environmental management as well as pollution prevention and remediation, centering on circumstances existing in developing nations.
Andrew grew up in Melbourne, Australia, where his proximity to the ocean fostered a curiosity to explore and understand the natural world. Andrew is broadly interested in topics across a variety of fields and graduated in 2020 from the University of Arkansas with bachelor's degrees in Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science along with minors in Mathematics and Physics. Upon graduating, Andrew began working for the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science (BMSIS) in 2021 with an international group of researchers, where he used computational methods to model the thermodynamics of amino acid synthesis on Enceladus - a moon of Saturn - to assess its potential for abiogenesis. While retaining an interest in astrobiology, Andrew gravitated towards the intersection between data science and the environment and pursued his interest in using data to understand the natural world. As a Master of Environmental Data Science (MEDS) student at the UCSB Bren school of the Environment, Andrew hopes to develop a strong foundation in data science and machine learning techniques while applying them towards furthering our understanding across a broad range of earth and environmental issues. Andrew enjoys learning, traveling, philosophy, reading, exercising, and anything that involves exploring the outdoors.

Andy MacDonald is a broadly trained ecologist who leverages field, lab and data driven approaches to understand how disease risk and transmission responds to global change. His research has focused on the effects of land use change and climate change on a variety of infectious diseases including Lyme disease and West Nile virus in North America, and malaria and dengue in the tropics. His research has also focused on the feedbacks between human health and conservation, identifying how environmental change can influence health, but also how health can influence natural resource use and conservation. Andy has formal training in both the social and natural sciences, and prior to joining the Bren School he completed a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology at Stanford University and was an Assistant Researcher in UCSB's Earth Research Institute.

Anne Youngdahl graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2017 with dual Bachelors of Arts degrees in English and Dance and a minor in Environmental Systems and Society. During and after her undergraduate career, she researched environmental sustainability metrics for the UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge (SLA-GC). As a contributing author for SLA-GC's report cards on energy & air quality, water, and ecosystem health in Los Angeles County, Anne focused primarily on environmental impacts on human health, water quality, and land use policy in wildlife areas. The project also involved contextualizing metrics alongside relevant policies. Anne then delved deeper into policy implementation at the local scale by serving as an AmeriCorps CivicSpark Fellow with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, where she supported local cities' climate action planning efforts. At the Bren School, Anne plans to specialize in Water Resources Management with a focus in Strategic Environmental Communications and Media. Her objectives are to set and pursue ambitious, data-driven sustainability goals and craft meaningful narratives to support the health and well-being of humans and other species.

Antony Millner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at UCSB. An overarching question his research often deals with is: "How can we make good long-run decisions about global environmental risks, and what prevents us from making them?" Millner works on a variety of applied theory topics in economics, often with a focus on environmental applications. Current research topics include intertemporal choice and discounting, decision-making under uncertainty, the economics of climate change and other long-run global risks, and political and behavioural economics.
He is a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, an affiliate of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, a Senior Research Associate at the Global Priorities Institute at Oxford University, and a Fellow of the CESIfo Research Network. Prior to joining UCSB he was a research professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He received his D.Phil. (PhD) from Oxford University, and has first class Masters degrees from Cambridge University and the University of Cape Town.
Ariel Daniels graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2021 with a Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Science and Policy. Growing up involved in Girl Scouts, doing routine beach/park clean-ups shed light on the intrinsic relationship between people and nature for her. Thus, Ariel went on to conduct a service learning project of raising $2000 for the non-profit Toys-for-Tots through revenue from recycling and exercising grant writing by partnering with Companies such as Costco to match any of the proceedings. During her schooling, Ariel was a research assistant to Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy, Nícola Ulibarrí, analyzing climate-smart agriculture practices and strategies. Ariel also went on to intern at the City of San Diego in their Planning Department under Traffic Engineer, Claudia Brizuela, utilizing ArcGIS software to analyze traffic data for roundabout implementations. With a strong interest in specializing in Economics and Policy of the Environment at the Bren school, Ariel strives to work in government as an Environmental Planner.

Ashley Cooper is a Master of Environmental Science and Management candidate passionate about conservation policy. Ashley graduated from Duke University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science and Policy. As an undergraduate, she conducted participatory research in Chile to better understand the relationship between a community's natural resource management and its economic wellbeing. Ashley continued to explore the intersection of environmental science and management as a social science research assistant at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) following graduation. Inspired by her drought adaptation and decision-making work at the USGS, Ashley joined the Natural Resources Defense Council's (NRDC) Water & Wildlife team in San Francisco. During her time with NRDC, she addressed pressing freshwater management questions, including urban water management, wetland protection, and multi-benefit freshwater conservation planning. At Bren, Ashley plans to specialize in Coastal Marine Resources Management. She looks forward to expanding her conservation experience beyond freshwater work to include marine and terrestrial efforts. After completing her master's, Ashley hopes to build a career in environmental policy to ensure effective, equitable natural resource management.

Bio
Austin Sonnier graduated with honors in 2020 from UCSB with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Geography and was awarded distinction in his major. For the past four and a half years, Austin has conducted drought and famine mitigation research for sub-Saharan Africa at the Climate Hazards Center supported by NASA, NOAA, and the United States Agency for International development. At the same time, Austin has worked as a renewable energy and equities writer and analyst for Seeking Alpha, one of the most popular investment research websites in the world. His work has inspired and motivated him to tackle the biggest root cause of human induced climatic hazards, carbon fuel emissions. Specializing in Climate and Energy with a focus in Innovative Entrepreneurship at the Bren School, he hopes to invest in, create, and support the companies and technologies that will lead the $50 trillion international transition towards a resilient, clean electric grid.

Ben Halpern focuses his research at the interface of marine ecology and conservation planning. His research has addressed a broad range of questions that span local to global scales, including spatial population dynamics, trophic interactions in community ecology, and the interface between ecology and human dynamics, all with the ultimate aim of informing and facilitating conservation and resource management efforts in marine systems. After receiving his PhD in 2003, he held a joint post-doctoral fellowship at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) and the Smith Fellowship Program sponsored by The Nature Conservancy. He was a research associate at NCEAS until 2013 and then appointed professor at the Bren School, and served as part-time Chair in Marine Conservation at Imperial College in London from 2013-2018.
Dr. Halpern has led and participated in many synthetic research projects that have advanced understanding of the state of the world's oceans and the potential for marine reserves to improve ocean condition. In particular, he has led the development and mapping of cumulative impact assessments at global and regional scales in marine and freshwater systems and has been the lead scientist for the Ocean Health Index project. He also co-founded the Conservation Aquaculture Research Team (CART). He has also conducted field expeditions in tropical and temperate systems in the Caribbean, Red Sea, Mediterranean, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, various parts of the South Pacific, California, and Chile.

As the Bren School's Director of Development, Beth Pitton-August works closely with the dean, faculty, and staff to raise funds to support the Bren School, and is the point person for managing and supporting the school's Dean's Council, Council of Legal Advisors, and Eco-E Advisory Council. She works closely with the Career Development & Alumni Relations team, particularly to build community and business connections that support the Bren School Corporate Partners program. In her wealth of fundraising experience, Beth has served as Corporate & Foundation Relations Director at Direct Relief and as Development Director at the Environmental Defense Center. She also ran her own consulting practice, providing development research, strategy, and writing services for a variety of nonprofit clients.
Beth received her BA in International Studies from Moody Bible Institute and her MA in Liberal Studies from DePaul University. Beth is also passionate about voting rights and has been a member of the League of Women Voters since 2006.
Betty Cheong graduated from Gettysburg College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies. She has over five years of experience in data analysis, greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting.
Betty started her career in environmental education, teaching elementary school students in her hometown of San Francisco. Working with the next generation of climate leaders inspired her to take on the challenge of reaching an even wider audience to ensure a sustainable future for herself, her community, and those to come. This idea led her to the San Francisco Department of Environment, where she provided sustainability guidance to small and medium-sized businesses in the city's Green Business Program. Her experience working with businesses made her acutely aware of the impact that companies have in regard to climate change mitigation. With that in mind, she joined CDP, an international non-profit where she supported multinational companies in compiling their climate-related disclosures and setting emission reduction targets. After CDP, she transitioned to a career in consulting, where she has conducted materiality assessments, GHG inventories, and led ESG software implementations.
At the Bren School, she is hoping to specialize in Corporate Environmental Management. Her goal after the completion of the program is to work in the consumer goods or apparel industry to facilitate sustainable supply chains.

Bio
Bruce Kendall is a quantitative ecologist whose research in population dynamics involves modeling and analysis of abundance (the number of individuals in a plant or animal population) and demographic (birth and death rate) data. He applies the science of population ecology both to the conservation of rare species and the management of harvested populations. His specific research interests include: processes that cause population abundances to fluctuate over time; predicting the extinction risk of rare species; patterns of individual growth in fluctuating environments and how they affect population growth rates; and the effects of current-driven dispersal on marine fish species. His funded research has included investigations into fish growth in estuaries and rivers, marine fisheries management, invasion biology, and the population consequences of among-individual heterogeneity in birth and death rates.
