Dr. Akash Gupta

Dr. Akash Gupta is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of all foot and ankle disorders. He treats common conditions such as bunions, hallux rigidus (stiff and painful first toe), and flatfeet. Dr. Gupta is one of a handful of foot and ankle surgeons nationwide with training in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery. These techniques can be used to treat common problems such as bunions and hammertoes with less pain, faster recovery and improved cosmesis. He also treats degenerative conditions such as ankle arthritis and tendon dysfunction for which he performs ankle replacements and soft tissue reconstructions. He has a special interest in sports-related injuries of the foot and ankle including cartilage lesions, ankle instability, Achilles tendon injuries and other soft tissue injuries. In addition, he treats other orthopaedic conditions including knee and hip arthritis as well as sports-related conditions of the knee. Dr. Gupta was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada and completed his undergraduate and medical training at the University of Southern California as part of the Baccalaureate/M.D program. During his medical school training, he spent an additional year researching in an orthopaedic biomechanical laboratory, during which he published numerous scientific papers in the orthopaedic literature and presented at national conferences. He then returned to the Northwest to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington, including working at Harborview Medical Center, one of the busiest and most well-respected orthopaedic trauma hospitals in the nation. Following residency, Dr. Gupta completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, which is considered to be a highly prestigious fellowship at the top orthopaedic hospital in the nation. Here, he spent time treating complex disorders of the foot and ankle with various techniques including reconstructive surgery, fusions, ankle replacements, deformity correction and arthroscopy. He also participated in the surgical care of foot and ankle disorders of many collegiate and professional athletes from around the country including from the NFL, NBA, NHL, USA Basketball, Association of Tennis Professionals, National Lacrosse League, and the New York City Ballet. Dr. Gupta strives to provide excellent care to his patients using the latest techniques and current literature. He believes that every patient has a unique story to tell and that treatment, both non-operative and surgery, should be tailored to the individual to allow them to return to their active lifestyle. Outside of work, Dr. Gupta enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, as well as golfing, fishing, and being active outdoors.

Dr. Bret T. Kean

Dr. Kean is committed to excellence in the care of shoulder and knee problems. He employs the most current arthroscopic and open surgical techniques to manage a wide spectrum of shoulder and knee disorders. The compassionate and competent care of patients is one of his primary missions. Dr. Bret T. Kean is a member of the Active Attending Staff at Providence Milwaukie Hospital and Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center. Fellowship-trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, Dr. Kean is able to offer his patients techniques and treatment paradigms that are at the forefront of shoulder and knee surgery. Dr. Kean started his training in Pennsylvania, first earning his B.S. in molecular biology at Haverford College and then his M.D. at Jefferson Medical College. He then headed westward completing his residency at the prestigious Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine/arthroscopic surgery at the University of Utah. While a visiting instructor at the University of Utah he helped cover the University's collegiate athletes (women's soccer, men's football, and ski team events). On a professional level, Dr. Kean is interested in anatomic double bundle ACL reconstructions, care of the winter athlete, fracture care, and arthroscopic shoulder surgery. In his free time, Dr. Kean's interests include spending time with his family, running and skiing.

Dr. Paul Ruesch

Dr. Paul Ruesch attended medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and is a Board Certified, Fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Ruesch specializes in Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. He specifically excels in meniscus repair, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and shoulder instability procedures. Dr. Ruesch is confident in treating arthritis of the shoulder, knee and hip from a joint preserving and replacing perspective. He is also experienced in treating fractures and musculoskeletal injuries. Prior to relocating to Oregon, Dr. Ruesch practiced at Orthopedics Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, where he served as Chief of Surgery for St. Joseph Hospital. Dr. Ruesch was also involved with the care of professional hockey teams, the orthopedic coverage of Big Ten Women's Basketball, and the World Police and Fire games. Dr. Ruesch is on staff at Providence Milwaukie Hospital, Mount Hood Medical Center, and East Portland Surgery Center. Away from the operating room, Dr. Ruesch enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, bike riding, and water sports.

Heather Beissinger

Heather has been a physician assistant since 2001 and joined Dr. Kean as an associate provider in 2015. As a team, they provide orthopedic services in the surgical and non-surgical settings. Their chief mission is the delivery of proficient and compassionate care. Collaborating with Dr, Kean, Heather helps to facilitate the entire spectrum of orthopedic treatment and recovery process in patient care.
