Dr. Amir Jahan Khan and Muhammad Ashar Malik (Aga Khan University) have published a research paper titled "Regulation, quality reporting and third-party certification of healthcare providers" in the Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA). The study analyses the certification role of the Healthcare Commissions in Pakistan and draw lessons for improving the healthcare quality reporting process in the country. The study also documents the short-term and long-term trade-off resulting from the enforcement of quality certification in the absence of appropriate alternative investment in medical training and care provisions in the country for uncertified providers. Dr. Amir Jahan Khan has published a research paper in the Journal of Medical and Internet Research (Impact Factor 2018: 4.945, ranked #1 out of 26 journals in the medical informatics category). The paper, Raising the Digital Profile of Facial Palsy: National surveys of patients' and clinicians' experiences of changing UK treatment pathways and views on future role of digital technology is accessible through the link: https://preprints.jmir.org/preprint/20406
This study was undertaken as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative research project "F.R.A.M.E. (facial remote activity monitoring eyewear)", an inconspicuous, non-invasive, mobile sensor device for real-time control of assistive technologies through facial expression. The project was awarded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) UK, Dr. Amir worked as the lead health economist on the project.

Anwar, Professor of City & Regional Planning, Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, School of Economics & Social Sciences, IBA, and Director Karachi Urban Lab (KUL), appeared on a panel discussion on 'The Stream: Will extreme weather spur world leaders to act on climate change?' on a global news channel, Al-Jazeera. The panel included, Kendra Pierre-Louis, Senior Climate Reporter, How to Save a Planet, and Dr. Joeri Rogelj, Director of Research, The Grantham Institute, Imperial College London.
Dr. Nausheen H. Anwar, Professor of City & Regional Planning, Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, School of Economics & Social Sciences, IBA, and Director Karachi Urban Lab (KUL), and the Karachi Urban Lab collaborated with partners across Southern cities for a study on 'Extreme Heat & Covid-19: The Impact on Urban Poor in Asia & Africa'. The study provides substantial new data on the direct as well as indirect impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, thermal comfort, and heat-related illness, in Jakarta (Indonesia), Hyderabad (India), Karachi and Hyderabad (Pakistan) and Douala (Cameroon). Alongside data on heat exposure and symptoms associated with heat-related illness, the report supplies supplementary data such as points on access to electricity, water, food, health services, as well as income and food intake during the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be of use to policy makers and researchers.
Dr. Nausheen H. Anwar, Professor City & Regional Planning, Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, School of Economics and Social Sciences and Director Karachi Urban Lab, has recently penned an article titled, 'Equality Matters'. The piece is published in the latest edition of UNDP's Development Advocate Pakistan magazine.
Dr. Nausheen H. Anwar will be leading from Pakistan a new project titled, 'Tell me how you see it: Dialogues for gender inclusive mobility', supported by the United Kingdom's Royal Academy of Engineering, in collaboration with colleagues who work on gender, sustainable transport, urban planning, and climate change in India, South Africa, United Kingdom, and USA. Women's mobility is deeply affected by the design of public space they travel in both developed and developing countries. The goal of this project is to develop a workbook and checklist to support those designing mobility infrastructure to include a gender perspective.
Nausheen Anwar, Professor City & Regional Planning and Director Karachi Urban Lab, in the IBA SSLA Department, has won a new grant of £281,000, for her project "Cool Infrastructures: Life with Heat in the Off-Grid City", funded by the United Kingdom's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), a £1.5 billion UK Government scheme to support cutting edge research and global impact towards the Sustainable Development Goal.

Syed Murad Ali Shah is the 36th Chief Minister of Sindh.
Mr. Shah hails from a distinguished political family. His father Syed Abdullah Shah served as Chief Minister of Sindh from 1993 to 1996.
He completed his matriculation from Saint Patrick's High School and intermediate from DJ Sindh Government Science College. He did his Civil Engineering from NED University. He continued his studies in the field of Structural Engineering and Economic Engineering from Stanford University in the 1990's.
Later he joined the water and Power Development as an engineer. He also offered his services as an Executive Engineer at Port Qasim Authority and later became the director of the Fish Harbor Authority. He worked in London for Citibank, in USA, Canada, and also in the Middle East, particularly Kuwait.
His political career started in 2002 when he contested from a small town Jhanghara and won the elections. His effective analytical skills and interest in financial matters earned him a key position in the party's think tank. He has also served as an irrigation and energy minister and finance minister of Sindh. In between these ministries his political career faced some struggles as he was disqualified from the assembly seat for holding both Pakistani and Canadian nationality simultaneously. However, during this particular period of crisis, he remained advisor to the Chief Minister of Finance. He surrendered his Canadian nationality and contested the by-election and assumed his ministry. Considering his sincerity and dedication towards work, he was elected as a Chief Minister for the first time in 2016 and served the office to June 1, 2018. This is his second tenure as CM Sindh, assuming office from August 18, 2018.
