Adam Tegart is a Trainee Analyst Programmer working within the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics in DCU on an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund. His work is primarily in the area of Natural Language Processing and involves the design, implementation and maintenance of a machine learning pipeline for training Large Language Models to be utilised in commercial enterprises to improve business workflows. Adam obtained his BSc. in Data Science from Dublin City University in 2023, completing a final year project titled "Explainable AI in Pathology - Concept Based Explainability for Mitotic Figure Detection in Whole Slide Images". His research interests are Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.
I am a PhD candidate at the Moore Institute for Research in the Humanities and Social Studies, working in association with the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, at the National University of Ireland, Galway. My research is supervised by Dr. Clodagh Downey, and Dr. John McCrae. This research looks at the application of Natural Language Processing techniques to Old Irish text, specifically, the Old Irish Glosses as they appear in Thesaurus Palaeohibernicus.
I received my BA from University College Cork in 2012, after which I went on to receive an MA in Medieval Celtic Languages and Literature (Early Irish and Medieval Welsh) from University College Dublin in 2013, and an MSc from University College Cork in Information Systems for Business Performance in 2016.
Ahsan Awais was born in Punjab, Pakistan in 1994. He received his Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from the Capital University of Science and Technology (i.e., formerly known as Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad), Pakistan, in 2017 and a Masters degree (research mode) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Malaysia in 2021.
Ahsan is currently enrolled in the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics as a PhD research scholar in the faculty of Computing and Engineering at Dublin City University (DCU), under the supervision of Dr. Graham Healy and Prof. Tomas Ward.
His research area is related to EEG based Brain Computer Interfaces and the PhD project is part of a large-scale European collaborative grant entitled "BITSCOPE: Brain Integrated Tagging for Socially Curated Online Personalized Experiences" involving partners across Europe.
Aisling is a PhD student working within Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics and DCU's School of Health and Human Performance. As a Certified Athletic Therapist, she is passionate about human movement, and musculoskeletal injury and rehabilitation. Her research is focused around using motion analysis and sensor technology to understand the biomechanics of running-related injuries. Aisling is a member of the DCU Running Injury Surveillance Centre (RISC) team, a study which aims to investigate the causes of running-related injuries among recreational runners. Aisling is a graduate of DCU, qualifying from the 2020 class of Athletic Therapy and Training.

Alan Reidy is currently a research assistant in the Applied Innovations team at Insight, University of Galway.
He completed a Higher Diploma in software design and development from the University of Galway in 2021 and joined Insight as an intern through this course.
Alessandro Ragano is a PhD student at Insight Centre for Data Analytics since 2018. He obtained an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and a BSc in Computer Engineering from Università Degi Studi di Salerno (Italy). His research involves investigating and understanding the Quality of Experience (QoE) aspects of audio archives and developing data-driven approaches for QoE estimation and audio restoration based on deep learning
Ali Hatami is a PhD candidate at the University of Galway working on Multimodal Machine Translation. He graduated from the University of Wolverhampton (UK) in Technology for Translation and Interpreting (Erasmus master program). He also has received a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence from the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). His research interests are Natural Language Processing and Machine Translation.
Ali Azzam Naeem received his B.Eng. (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol in 2012. He then undertook a research placement at Imperial College London under the supervision of Dr Ravi Vaidyanathan. Azzam supported a project that was developing a biosignal classification framework for human-machine interaction. The system was based on prescribed tongue ‘flicks' which propagate mechanically to the ear canals and can be recorded by sensitive microphones placed within the ear. Azzam's contribution to this project was to develop a control link which allowed this framework to manipulate a prosthetic hand. Following this placement, Azzam worked in industry for 6 months after which he continued his studies at University College Cork completing an M.Sc. in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing in 2014. For his Masters thesis, he developed software for simulating and evaluating different strategies for evacuating city traffic during emergency. This research was supervised by Dr Kieran Mulchrone. Currently, Azzam is a Ph.D. student at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Cork working under the supervision of Professor Ken Brown. His research focus is on Data Mining and Decision Analytics.

Alison is a Research Physiotherapist who's area of research focuses on the human factors associated with digital health technology. This ranges from exploring the usability of medical and commercial devices, exploring potential uses for digital health data in clinical practice, understanding the clinical meaningfulness of digital health measures, and engaging patients and the public with digital health research. Alison is the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement lead for the Mobilise-D consortium, a European project looking to develop digital mobility outcomes for real-world walking in clinical populations. She has authored over 25 publications, and has strong experience working with industry and commercial partners, including consulting work.
Alizée is a PhD student at the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, Dublin City University.
She received her Master's degree in Electronic and Computing Engineering from ECE Paris, France in 2019 with a 6 months final year intership in 2018 at the School of Health and Human Performance in DCU with Dr. Johann Issartel on developing an user friendly interface for data acquisition and signal analysis for researchers working on Parkinson disease.
She also worked as a research assistant in Insight DCU prior to starting her PhD. The research topic involved Machine Learning, Video analytics and Crowd Monitoring.
Alizée's current research is carried out in the area of machine learning applied to human performance in sports.
Amy Shelley is a Ph.D. student at Dublin City University and Insight Centre for Data Analytics. Her research is aiming for a comprehensive biopsychosocial picture of the concomitants of player development within English Rugby Union, across the professional club game. The project is focused on providing a data driven ‘map' detailing the ‘DNA' of the Premiership Player.
I am a PhD Research student in the field of computer science, studying at the University of Galway and working at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics. I work at the Unit for Information Mining and Retrieval (UIMR) under the supervision of Dr. Conor Hayes.
My current research focuses on analyzing the role of exploration and exploitation in the area of Recommendation Systems. Specifically, I will aim to represent the Recommendation Systems as a reinforcement learning agent that is continuously obtaining information to refine its base knowledge.
I hold a Bachelor in Systems Engineering and a Master in Computer Science from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia.
I first came to work at the Insight Centre as a Master Student Intern in order to carry out my master thesis as a collaborative effort between the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the Insight Centre. In my master thesis, I worked on the topic of Diversity for Recommender Systems.
My career ambition is to thrive as an Applied Research Scientist working on cutting-edge projects related to the areas I am most passionate about, which include but are not limited to: Recommendation Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
My name is Andrea Yañez. I am a first year Research Master student working in unit for information mining and retrieval (UIMR). My professional motivation is to make a contribution with a positive social impact on people's lives using technology. My work has been focused in the development of a Visualization Tool with R that would allow the user to interact with an epidemic model by observing the simulated outcomes of potential interventions (e.g. closing a school) that would help contain the outbreak.

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Human-Computer Interaction at University College Dublin. My current research focuses on the design of mental health technologies to support people at different stages of their mental health journey. I recently completed my Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction at Trinity College Dublin. My Ph.D. focused on the design of technologies to support mental health assessment and intervention. This work examined the design options for mobile technologies for anxiety management to support user engagement and personalisation, features of successful technologies for mental health technology adoption.
Prior to that, I worked as a user experience researcher and front-end developer. I obtained an MSc in Human-Computer Interaction from Umea University of Sweden, and a BSc in Informatics and Computer Technology from the Technological Institution of Western Macedonia in Greece.
Andrew Simpkin a Lecturer (Above the Bar) in Statistics at the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Galway. His research focusses on longitudinal data analysis, functional data analysis, genomics and data science. Andrew works on many interdisciplinary projects across medicine, engineering, biology, sociology and sports science. He is interested in applied statistics and data science, developing methods and tools to work with people in a wide variety of disciplines. These collaborations often lead to exciting questions which require novel theoretical statistical approaches.

Andy Donald is a Research Fellow and lead of the Applied Innovation Unit at Insight, University of Galway. His current research focus covers automation of the AI and machine learning process and the application of explainable AI methods within these processes and their application in real world, cloud based situations. He has a particular interest in the development of surrogate models for complex computational models and how these can be applied to help real-time predictions. He has made significant contributions to research on distributed systems and stream processing as well as researching Linked Data and Knowledge Graph construction. His interests also extend into management of large scale Multimodal Data Ecosystems. His significant private sector background also provides a unique view into how innovative research can be scaled and applied to real world issues both at an academic and industry level.

Asma Slaimi is a PhD student in the School of Electronic Engineering at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland.
Asma is working with Noel O'Connor, Dr Fiona, Dr Michael, and Dr Susan Hegarty on a collaborative project with Arup to investigate the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the water domain.
To accomplish her master's project, Asma has worked with Dr Brian Davis in The Insight Centre for Data Analytics, Galway, Ireland. The work involved developing a Supervised Machine Learning model for Ontology-based Named Entity Recognition in an E-Recruitment Platform as part of the Data Live project.
I am a PhD student at Insight Centre for Data Analytics (Data Science Institute), University of Galway, Ireland. I completed my undergraduate and master's degree in Computer Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, India, specializing in machine learning and AI. My main research interests include using deep learning for computer vision. I have briefly worked on blockchains and dataspaces. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher on the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme under grant agreements 731015 European Lexical Infrastructure (ELEXIS) project, led by Dr. John P. McCrae, in the Unit for Linguistic Data, University of Galway. Since October 5th 2020, I have been also working as an adjunct lecturer at the College of Science and Engineering, University of Galway, Ireland. Before joining University of Galway, I have worked as a Vedecký Pracovník (Postdoc Researcher ) at UFAL, Charles University, Prague from July 2019 to June 2020. In 2017, I co-founded a startup named Panlingua Language Services LLP situated in New Delhi, India.
I received my PhD in March 2019 from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India under the supervision of Prof. Girish Nath Jha. My PhD title was English-Bhojpuri SMT System: Insights from the K¿raka Model. I am actively working on the creation of linguistic resources for low-resource languages. Ahmed Missaoui is a Postdoctoral Researcher in optimization and operational research at UCC.
He received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University Tunis El Manar, Tunisia in 2011 (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master's Degree in Optimization Engineering from the University of Sfax in 2016 (summa cum laude). Ahmed attained his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Sfax in 2022 with his thesis on logistics and production, supervised by Prof. Younes Boujelbene and Prof. Ruben Ruiz Garcia.
Ahmed then started his career as an Assistant Professor for six months at the Computer Science Department, University of Sfax, Tunisia.

Dr Ali Intizar is an Assistant Professor in the School of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Dublin City University. His research interests include Data Analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), Stream Query Processing, Data Integration, Distributed and Federated Machine Learning, and Knowledge Graphs. His research outcomes have been successfully applied in various domains including intelligent IoT applications for Smart Cities, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Farming, Environmental Monitoring, and e-Health. Ali has led several research projects as principal investigator and funded investigator funded by European Commission, Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Industry.

Dr Hines is currently the Director of Research, Innovation and Impact for the School of Computer Science at UCD. His primary research interests are in applying machine learning for applications in speech, audio and video signal processing. He is a committee member of the Audio Engineering Society (Ireland) and is a senior member of the IEEE. He has represented Ireland on the management committee of Qualinet, an FP7 European COST Action, where he led a task force focused on using machine learning to develop Quality of Experience (QoE) models. He was also a member of the management committee of the H2020 CryptoAction COST research network.Outside of academia, Dr Hines spent a decade working in industry as director of engineering for software development companies in the airline and finance industries.

Dr. Ankit Vijayvargiya earned a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree with honors in Electrical Engineering from Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology, Management & Gramothan in Jaipur, India, in 2010. As a part of his Neuroinsight Fellowship, he is conducting research on the application of machine learning analysis to enhance clinician decision-making for optimizing gait during robotic exoskeleton therapy using surface electromyography (sEMG). Dr. Aonghus Lawlor is Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science, University College Dublin, and a Funded Investigator at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics and the VistaMilk SFI Research Centre. After completing his Ph.D in University College Dublin he worked at the National Centre for Geocomputation and then joined the recommender systems group at the Insight Centre. His current work is focused on recommender systems, applying machine learning and deep learning to recommendation tasks and finding ways to interpret and explain recommendations.

Dr. Bharathi Raja Chakravarthi is a permanent Lecturer-Above-the-Bar/Assistant Professor from Sep 2022 in the School of Computer Science at the University of Galway, Ireland. Feargal O'Sullivan is a research masters student at Insight UCC. He is funded through a scholarship provided by Qualcomm. His main area of interest is the application of ultra-low power neural networks for biomedical purposes. Feargal completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UCC, where one year of this degree was spent at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles). Andrew Parnell is Hamilton Professor in the Hamilton Institute at Maynooth University. His research is in statistics and machine learning for large structured data sets in a variety of application areas. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers in applied journals such as Science, Nature Communications, and Plos ONE, and has methodological publications in journals such as Statistics and Computing, The Annals of Applied Statistics, and Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series C. He has been awarded over 1 million to date in direct funding. He has been heavily involved in the commercialisation of research through the start-up companies Prolego Scientific (CSO) and Atturos (Scientific Advisor). He is currently a funded investigator in three different SFI centres: The Insight Centre for Data Analytics, The I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Centre, and The VistaMilk Centre for Precision Pasture-based Dairy.
