Janice Brown's love for Auburn started in 1981 (she wanted to highlight that she's not that old) when she worked as a secretary for Auburn at 20 years old. After four and a half years though, she felt like she needed a change. She then transitioned from the campus life to the City of Opelika Municipal Court System as a Municipal Court Magistrate for almost twenty years. There, she learned a great deal about different personalities as they attempted to navigate issues pertaining to the court. As an extrovert, she welcomed all personalities and concerns and helped whenever it was possible. These early years taught her a great deal about life and she thanks God that years of hardship in some of these situations has built her into a stronger woman and has allowed her to love and help the students in the Drop-in-Center. She loves Auburn and is so amazed by the wonderful and diverse group of students she sees and helps each and every day. She sees the Office as their second home and loves to be seen as the mother figure that she is. She had not really considered what diversity meant to her until she worked with a great leader in Dr. Mulligan, but her working definition is as follows: "Believe that you are created equal, believe that you are great, believe that you are different from the inside and out and always bring your uniqueness to the table. Now, if others would do the same, you'll see many positive dimensions to explore within ourselves."

Kimberly Mulligan earned her B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University and Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Vanderbilt University. Her dissertation research examined the mechanism by which insulin stimulated skeletal muscle glucose uptake is impaired in the presence of inflammation. Upon completion of her degree, she worked for the Vanderbilt University Center for Science Outreach where she was able to merge her love of science and desire to enhance STEM education at the K-12 level in the US and abroad. In Dr. Mulligan's current role, she works to develop and implement initiatives which create an inclusive environment for a diverse student body, faculty and staff. Dr. Mulligan recognizes the opportunities that have been afforded her through the vested interest others have taken in seeing her develop as a scholar. Therefore, she utilizes her position to explore new avenues to do the same for others by promoting inclusion in higher education to help shape a STEM workforce that reflects our diverse population. She loves that her COSAM family is so supportive of the work done by OIED and is committed to ensuring many voices and perspectives are represented in scientific fields.

Matthew was born in Houston, TX and two of his early passions were sports and guitar. In 2018, he earned his Bachelor's of Arts with Paideia Scholar Distinction in Psychology from Southwestern University. During his time at Southwestern, he was also trained in Classical and Flamenco guitar, loved to skate and started a punk band with three of his closest friends. These days, he loves to read non-fiction, still plays guitar as often as possible and is a self-described podcast addict. At Auburn, he completed his M.Ed. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and began his Counselor Education and Supervision Ph.D. program in August of 2020. In the past, he's spent time working as a lumberjack, automotive technician's assistant and bartender, but his current position as the graduate assistant in the COSAM OIED has been one of the most meaningful vocational experiences in his life. He lives by the Nietzsche quote, "he who has a why can survive any how," and believes that the Auburn family has provided him with an exceptionally meaningful why, particularly through opportunities to help others.
