Originally from a small town in Oregon, Madeline came to Reed after homeschooling for high school. As a French literature major, they received grant funding from Reed to travel to Tahiti and do thesis research on a local group working to reclaim indigenous identities through oral and written literature. They were also a founding member of Reed's women's basketball team, moderated a queer discussion group, and directed Reed's satirical HumPlay. After graduating, Madeline spent most of their time in Paris, France, where they relished their role as an elementary school teaching assistant and furthered their fascination with politics through a master's in political sociology. Madeline is passionate about community organizing and improving access to rigorous educational opportunities and is excited to help bring more Pacific Northwesterners to Reed. When they're not working, you can find them in a body of water, at a stand-up comedy show, playing guitar, or grilling (yes, even in the rain).
