Ballard CSD was formed in 1957, when the communities of Cambridge, Huxley, Kelley, and Slater came together to create a public school system that served children from throughout our area. Today, our district encompasses about 85 square miles in the growing "Golden Circle," situated between Ames and Des Moines. This location allows us to enjoy the perks of living in a small-town setting with the ability to quickly take advantage of the amenities available in these larger cities... Serving more than 1,700 students across grades preK-12, the Ballard Community School District offers students a wide range of opportunities that prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond.
