Celebrating a century of service, Burlington County Library has the proud distinction of being the first county library in New Jersey. It began operating out of a small room of the Mount Holly YMCA in 1921 following overwhelming support by voter referendum. The library's first bookmobile, a modified Ford car with a truck chassis, made its debut that same year. Library affairs were managed by an appointed, five-member commission, the form of government continues to this day... 2023 represented another year of accomplishment at BCLS and we are delighted to note that expanding our digital offerings remained a top priority. We also placed a greater emphasis on the power of play by providing more opportunities for discovery and exploration throughout the system, including adding new STEM Carts, and Activity Stations for children to enjoy.
