Peter Stein was re-elected a vice president of the DC 37 Executive Board. A unionist for more than 50 years, Stein serves as president of NYC Lifeguard Supervisors Local 508. He chairs the DC 37 Laws and Rules Committee, and serves on the union's Pension Committee, the Political Action Committee and is a trustee of the Welfare Fund. Stein is an indefatigable fighter on the frontlines of the labor movement. His members and the City Lifeguards they supervise are unsung heroes and "first responders who patrol New York City's public beaches and pools." Under Stein's leadership, the local has made union organizing and participation, and political action priorities. One hundred percent of the members of Locals 461 and 508 have signed green cards enrolling them as DC 37 members despite the anti-union Janus decision by the US Supreme Court in 2018. "Political action is labor's battle ground," Stein said. "If we are to achieve economic victories and social justice for our members, political activism is essential," Stein said. On primary and election days, Stein volunteers with hundreds of City Lifeguards and Supervisors to support labor-friendly candidates that DC 37 endorses. He said, "The ballot box is where we show our strength as a union." Meetings scheduled as required. The committee reviews and makes recommendations on proposed amendments to the DC 37 constitution.
