Horace O'Bryant Middle School, opened in 1964, and was named after the Superintendent of Monroe County Schools from 1949 until 1965. By 1968, the student enrollment had grown to 1,300 boys and girls. Glynn Archer High was created and located on Fort Street where Douglas School was. Two years later, Glynn Archer J. High moved to the White Street school building.
