VOLUNTEER CAREGIVING

Our goal is to provide volunteer services to help our friends and neighbors live as independently as possible for as long as possible, while maintaining their dignity and quality of life... The Center for Volunteer Caregiving is a nonprofit organization created in 1992 to provide unskilled volunteer services to older adults and adults with disabilities living independently in Wake County, such as friendly visits, help around the house, transportation to medical appointments and basic needs shops, and respite visits for unpaid family caregivers... While attending an AARP conference at the age of 85, John Meares, Sr., a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cary heard about a Faith in Action program and brought the idea back to his community. Local churches organized, wrote a grant and were awarded a $25,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Wake Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers was established in 1992 with a goal to unite the faith community and other volunteers..
