FLAMING BUDDHA

When this material ignites, a metal container is placed over the sculpture to contain the the smoke and to enable the flames to consume the oxygen inside the container. (Scroll down for more images)... The second firing is known as raku. The piece is fired in the kiln for approximately an hour to enable the glazes to flux... The first firing is known as bisque, which vitrifies the clay enough to allow it to be handled and glazed.
