Andrew Coombs - Chief Commercial Officer

Andrew joined HCA Healthcare UK in November 2016 as Commercial Director. He is responsible for HCA UK's relationships and commercial arrangements with insurers and other business partners, as well as for our activities supporting international patients coming to the UK for treatment. Andrew's previous roles include Managing Director at AXA PPP International and Finance Director at AXA PPP Healthcare. Dr Kamal Ahmed was fully trained in all aspects of renal medicine including dialysis and transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital London. In the early part of his career he was heavily involved in quality initiatives, European dialysis and transplantation audits, and carried out original research in renal metabolic bone disorders leading to multiple original publications.
In 1986 he joined the London Bridge Hospital as a Consultant Renal Physician to provide leadership for the renal programme. He established the renal unit with a multidisciplinary team which has been renowned nationally and internationally for the management of end stage renal failure with dialysis and transplantation. In the 80's he developed a special interest in renal vascular disease, intensive care nephrology and the management of high risk renal transplant patients.
In 1999, in addition to his clinical role, he was appointed as Director of Clinical Standards at London Bridge Hospital. He set up the framework for clinical governance and provided leadership for clinical standards to ensure safety of practice across the complex and multiple specialities of the hospital. Since 2009 he has held the role of the Medical Director of the Hospital and had a key role in progressing the clinical governance structure and setting up the hospital Board. He has in the last 10 years supported the HCA UK Division sitting on various committees and since 2012, taken on the role of Medical Appraisal Lead for HCA UK. Since November 2017 he has, in addition, taken on the role of the Divisional Medical Director for Governance at HCA UK, providing a key support role for the Chief Medical Officer and the Responsible Officer.

Dr Phil Harrison is a member of the Medical Advisory Board and Clinical Governance lead at London Bridge Hospital. He is a well-respected and prolific author and lecturer, and is a globally renowned physician with a worldwide patient base.
He qualified from St George's Hospital Medical School in 1984 (BSc and MBBS) and trained in Hepatology at King's College Hospital, London and Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. He was awarded MD by the University of London in 1992 for work demonstrating the benefit of N-acetylcysteine in liver failure and PhD in molecular and cell biology in 1997.
He has worked as Consultant Hepatologist at King's College London since 1994 and joined London Bridge Hospital in 1996. He is immediate past General Secretary of the British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL) and is Chair of the NICE cirrhosis guideline development group. He has also acted as clinical advisor for NICE on drugs for viral hepatitis. He is a national opinion leader in liver disease and has appeared on the Tonight Programme on ITV, Channel 5 News and NBC Television, and contributed to national newspaper articles and The Big Issue highlighting liver diseases. His practice offers a full range of liver services from abnormal liver functions through to viral hepatitis, Hepatitis B and C and hepatocellular carcinoma.
He is a leading exponent of interventional endoscopy, particularly ERCP. He works as a member of a multidisciplinary team of liver surgeons, radiologists and oncologists bringing state-of-the-art liver medicine, surgery and liver transplantation to patients in an independent hospital setting. The London Liver Centre attracts patients from UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Janene is Chief Executive Officer of London Bridge Hospital and has held the post since January 2017. Janene completed her training and worked as a clinical physiotherapist in New Zealand. She then travelled to England where she worked in a variety of NHS and private sector positions, climbing the ranks to Hospital Manager. During her progression she completed an MBA at Henley Management College. Janene joined HCA in 2006 as Chief Operating Officer at The Wellington Hospital and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of The Portland Hospital in 2009.
Janene is responsible for the safe and successful operation of all aspects of the hospital including its growth and strategic direction. London Bridge Hospital's campus includes London Bridge Hospital, HCA Healthcare UK Outpatients and Diagnostics at the Shard, Private Care at Guy's and five Outpatients and Diagnostics Centres spanning the City and Canary Wharf. London Bridge Hospital is rated ‘Outstanding' by the CQC.
