Barry Price

Barry trained as a solicitor with a niche human rights law firm rated band 1 by Chambers & Partners for civil liberties and human rights in Scotland. During his time there, he was involved in many high profile and contentious cases, including cases before the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords (now the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom), and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. He also regularly appeared before the Parole Board for Scotland in Life Prisoner, Extended Sentence Prisoner and Recall Tribunals, and has experience of challenging such decisions via judicial review at the Court of Session. After 18 months as a fully qualified solicitor there, Barry moved to a mid-sized firm in Glasgow city centre. He remained there for three years, practising in all areas of immigration, asylum and nationality law, and continuing his interest in human rights and European Union law. Barry has extensive experience in providing advice under the Points Based System to employers and employees; all aspects of family migration to the United Kingdom; applications under the EEA scheme; challenges to removal directions; and applications for release on bail. He appears regularly in the Immigration Chambers of both the First Tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal, and instructs counsel in further appeals to the Court of Session. He has a particular interest in asylum applications and appeals, and has experience in dealing with disputed nationality and disputed age cases, along with deportation appeals. He also has an interest in judicial review applications, challenging the decisions of public bodies (including the Scottish Ministers, the Parole Board for Scotland, the Scottish Prison Service and the Secretary of State for the Home Department) at the Court of Session where appropriate. Barry is a member of the Scottish Immigration Law Practitioners Association and is a Senior Associate Solicitor within the firm. When not working, his interests lie in films, theatre, music and travel.

Courtney Smiley

Courtney joined the firm in 2016 as an apprentice and within 2 years progressed to the position of Legal Secretary. Courtney now has 4 years experience as a legal secretary working in the area of asylum and immigration. Since being promoted to the position of legal secretary, Courtney has built on her knowledge and experience. She assists the solicitors in the department with their caseload as well as file management. Courtney has strong attention to detail, organisational and problem solving skills. Outside of work Courtney enjoys traveling, going to the gym and socialising with friends and family.

Eilidh Wright

Eilidh joined Latta and Co as a Trainee Solicitor in 2022 after completing the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow. Eilidh graduated from the Accelerated Scots Law degree with Distinction from the University of Glasgow in 2021. Prior to studying Law, Eilidh graduated from Edinburgh College of Art at the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Art, specialising in Intermedia. During her studies, Eilidh developed knowledge of the complex barriers to equality and social justice which prompted her to embark on a career in Law. Throughout her academic career, Eilidh was involved with various non-profit organisations focused on improving access to justice and the promotion of human rights. Eilidh is keen to utilise her previous experience within her role as Trainee Solicitor and continue to cultivate her knowledge of Asylum and Immigration law. During her traineeship, Eilidh's goal is to prioritise supporting clients through the Asylum and Immigration process and to provide a trauma-informed and person-focused service.

Emily Carmichael

Emily graduated with a joint honours degree in Law and German Law from the University of Aberdeen in 2018. Prior to becoming trainee, Emily was a legal secretary in immigration law firms for 3 years. Upon finishing her diploma in Legal Practice at Strathclyde University she began her traineeship at Latta & Co in 2021. During her studies, Emily volunteered at Victim Support for 2 years, providing emotional and psychological support for victims of crimes. She also spent 4 months volunteering in a refugee camp in Greece in 2017 which is where her passion for immigration and asylum began. Emily has a keen interest in immigration and asylum, and has also been undertaking work regarding criminal injuries compensation and obtaining damages for unlawful detention. She has experience in the First-Tier Tribunal, as well as instructing counsel and involvement in Upper Tribunal cases. She is committed to providing the best possible service to her clients and ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Eve-Anne Travers

Eve-Anne graduated with an honours degree in Law from the University of Glasgow in 2016 and an LLM in Public International Law from Leiden University in 2017. Eve-Anne joined the firm in March 2022 as a Trainee Solicitor following completion of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow in 2021. Prior to embarking on the Diploma, Eve-Anne worked as a journalist specialising in criminal justice, politics and social affairs at the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Kosovo from 2017-2020. Eve-Anne has a particular interest in legal advocacy, participating in moot court competitions throughout university. Eve-Anne went on to work part time for universities in Kosovo and Uzbekistan coaching their moot court teams. Eve-Anne spends any spare time they have hanging out with their dog, Dipper.

Fraser Latta - Managing Director

In 2010, Fraser was appointed as a Peer Reviewer by the Law Society of Scotland. Fraser has served as a Peer Reviewer from 2010 until present. Fraser studied Law at Strathclyde University, and completed his Diploma in Legal Practice at the Glasgow Graduate School of Law. He thereafter completed a Masters in Criminal Justice at the same institution, before embarking on his professional career. He qualified as a solicitor in 2003. In 2008, Fraser was assumed as a partner with one of Scotland's biggest firms providing legal advice in relation to human rights and immigration issues. Fraser left that firm in 2012 in order to set up his own company which has access to justice as one of its founding principles, and which places emphasis on outstanding client care. His firm, Latta & Co. Solicitors, was voted High Street firm of the year at the Herald Law Awards in 2019, and has been included in the Times Best Scottish Law firm 2020 list. Fraser has a keen interest in the legal profession in Scotland; human rights; and access to justice. He has been involved in several high-profile cases, and is often asked to provide commentary on human rights and immigration issues. He is a regular speaker at training events, and has participated in events hosted by the Faculty of Advocates, and the Law Society of Scotland.

Frazer Meldrum

Frazer joined Latta & Co in June 2022 as a Trainee Solicitor following the completion of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow in March. Prior to obtaining the Diploma, Frazer graduated with an honours degree in Scots Law from the University of Glasgow in 2021. Frazer spent the third year of his undergraduate degree studying at Erasmus University Rotterdam. It was here that he developed an interest in international human rights law, which led him to pursue a career working in immigration and asylum. On return to Glasgow for his fourth year, Frazer's honours subjects included immigration and asylum law as well as other human rights courses. Frazer's research interests also include employment, public and constitutional law.

Hannah Cosgrove

Hannah graduated from the University of Strathclyde with an honours degree in law and French, having spent a year studying at the Jean Moulin University Lyon III, France. Subsequently, Hannah completed the Diploma in Legal Practice and an MPhil in legal research also at the University of Strathclyde. During her time at university, Hannah assisted in the running of the well-established University of Strathclyde Law Clinic and continues to volunteer there to date. Through her involvement as a student in the Law Clinic, Hannah won the ‘Best Contribution by an Individual Student' at the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards in 2013 at Westminster Parliament. Hannah has also tutored various legal subjects on the undergraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde since 2011. Hannah completed her traineeship and qualified as a solicitor at Latta & Co where her work has extended over a variety of areas including immigration, asylum, human rights, children's, family, general civil and general criminal work. Hannah has appeared in a variety of matters at the Sheriff Court, Immigration and Asylum Chamber, Children's Hearings, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the First Tier Transport Tribunal and instructed counsel at the Sheriff Court, Immigration and Asylum Chamber and Court of Session. Jalal Chaudry

Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Jalal worked as a welfare rights officer and volunteered for the South Glasgow Public Partnership Forum Executive Group. Jane Mackie

With over 30 years' experience as a secretary, Jane is not only secretary to Fraser Latta but also the office manager. She joined the firm in 2012 and her duties include responding and networking with clients, supervision of all admin staff and ensuring employee satisfaction, as well as communicating with upper management about department needs. Jane is committed to making our clients' experience a positive one. In her spare time, Jane enjoys socialising and playing pool. Jennifer Cowan

Jennifer Cowan graduated from Strathclyde University in 2007 with an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Scots Law. She completed her Diploma in legal Practice at the Glasgow Graduate School of Law in 2008. Jennifer joined Latta & Co in November 2013 bringing a wealth of experience of asylum, immigration and human rights law. She appears regularly at the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal representing clients with their asylum and immigration matters. Jennifer has a keen interest in asylum law assisting some of the most vulnerable in society during this complex process but also in naturalization and victims of human trafficking. She is experienced in Judicial Review cases challenging decisions of the Home Office at the Court of Session. Jennifer is a member of Scottish Young Lawyers Association and Scottish Immigration Law Practitioners Association and is an Associate Solicitor within Latta & Co Solicitors. In her spare time Jennifer enjoys painting, photography, music, watching rugby and socialising with friends and family.

Jess Mackintosh

Kathryn Dingwall

Kathryn graduated with an honours degree in Law from Glasgow University in 2013. She completed her Diploma in Legal Practice at Glasgow University in 2014. During her studies, Kathryn volunteered at the Ethnic Minorities Law Centre where she then went on to complete her traineeship, gaining experience in assisting clients with their Asylum, Immigration and Discrimination matters. On qualifying with the law centre she was appointed the Project Solicitor for a number of community development projects; working with local organisations throughout the UK to promote the rights of ethnic minority communities. Kathryn is now a solicitor with Latta & Co Solicitors and is passionate about tackling inequalities and promoting access to justice. She is experienced in preparing and presenting appeals in the Immigration and Asylum Tribunals as well as in the Employment Tribunals. Laura Sclare

Laura completed her traineeship at one of the largest legal aid firms in Dundee. She gained experience in immigration and asylum, criminal defence, family and mental health law. She regularly appears in the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal and Sheriff Courts all over Scotland. She also instructs counsel in Court of Session and High Court matters. Laura has a particular interest in working on behalf of clients fighting deportation allowing her to draw on her experience in both immigration and criminal law. She is experienced in preparing and presenting appeals against deportation at the Tribunal. Marie Claire Latta

Marie Claire Latta has been heading the Operations for Latta & Co Solicitors for the past ten years. She has successfully delivered an effective service in respect of the firm's Finance, HR, IT and Admin/ Facility operations. She assists the Designated Cash Room Manager in all matters related to the Law Society of Scotland and other regulatory compliance; attending management meetings and contributing to the management and development of the firm, both operationally and strategically. Robert Gibb

Roisin Lalley

Ruzena Benes

Ruzena has since completed her traineeship and qualified as a solicitor at Latta & Co, where she has focused her work on general immigration, asylum and human rights cases. Ruzena has developed significant experience working on cases involving domestic violence, human trafficking and unaccompanied asylum seeking minors. Ruzena has appeared at the Immigration and Asylum Chamber for cases involving asylum and human rights appeals, and is committed to providing comprehensive legal advice and support to all of her clients.

Sarah Watson

Before undertaking her law degree, Sarah graduated with an honours degree from Glasgow University in Sociology and Anthropology. It was during this time that she built a strong understanding of the complex inequalities which impose systemic and social barriers to equality and justice across the world. While undertaking her law degree at Strathclyde, Sarah was keen to put her legal knowledge to good use at the earliest opportunity and assisted with the running of Strathclyde Law Clinic as a volunteer and then as a project co-ordinator for The Asylum Project. Upon graduating from her law degree, Sarah was eager to continue building her interests developed over this time, particularly in the fields of asylum and housing. She commenced her traineeship with Latta & Co upon graduating in May 2022, and is looking forward to continuing to work the team at Latta to provide legal assistance and support to all our clients.
