Aaron Lohr, MA, LMFT, serves as the esteemed Clinical Director of Avalon Malibu, having been an integral part of the team since its inception in 2012. His unwavering dedication and multifaceted expertise significantly contribute to the exceptional quality of client care and the seamless management of facility operations.
Aaron brings a unique blend of tenacity, passion, fearlessness, and humility to his role, ensuring that every aspect of client care is handled with the utmost professionalism and compassion. His academic background is impressive and diverse; he earned his Bachelor's Degree from UCLA, a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College in New York City, and a Master's Degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate University.
With a comprehensive understanding of both the psychological and systemic aspects of client care, Aaron excels in leading his team and fostering an environment of healing and growth. His leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to excellence and an unwavering focus on delivering the highest standards of care to every client.
Alexis is an Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Born and raised in Northern New Jersey, Alexis moved out to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue professional goals and since 2014 she has worked in the field of mental health and substance abuse. Alexis is certified in Integral Breath Therapy (Breathwork), an experiential and somatic approach with which she is able to support clients suffering with a range of symptoms such as PTSD, sexual and relational trauma, as well as anxiety and depression.

Chad has been a valuable member of the Avalon team since 2021, bringing with him a wealth of experience in the field of mental health and addiction since 2016. As a mental health advocate and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Chad is dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. He facilitates a variety of groups, focusing on relapse prevention and mindfulness, helping clients develop the skills necessary for lasting sobriety.
Chad's personal experience with recovery fuels his passion for assisting others in overcoming their challenges. His empathetic and supportive approach makes him an integral part of the Avalon team, where he is committed to empowering individuals on their path to healing and growth.
Corinne Barthell is an experienced mental health professional with positive outcomes in the treatment of dual diagnosis, including but not limited to addictions, trauma, behavioral, and mood disorders. Corinne uses a range of treatment modalities that are tailored to fit the client's needs. This includes solution-focused, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence-based therapies. She utilizes her experience in psycho-dynamic and existential therapies, and offers EMDR as adjunctive therapy when appropriate.
Corinne was born and raised in Michigan and moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue her career as a Script Supervisor in the film industry. After several years of making movies, she decided to change careers. She became certified as a chemical dependence counselor and began working in the field of recovery while attending Antioch University where she attained her MA in Psychology. After becoming licensed as an LMFT in 2010, she completed the Sharpiro-based EMDR training and later became certified as a sex addiction therapist (CSAT).
Corinne lives in Malibu where it is convenient to hike in the mountains and take her dogs, Lula and Sam, for daily walks on the beach. She also attends Yoga several times a week and loves to work in her garden.

Cyrus Gandhi is a highly respected certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the state of California, holding a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University. With deep-rooted connections within the recovery communities of Los Angeles and Malibu, Cyrus brings a wealth of experience and insight into supporting individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Cyrus is passionately dedicated to guiding clients through their darkest moments towards a brighter future. His commitment is best captured in his own words: "The greatest gift I've ever received is having the privilege of walking side by side with you through darkness into a brighter day."
With a profound understanding of the challenges faced by those in recovery, Cyrus offers empathetic and effective support, fostering healing and resilience in each individual he works with. David has been in recovery since 1992 and has been involved in helping others on their path to recovery. Service, compassion, and recovery have been his mission throughout this time and he leverages his experience to help others. He is currently studying for his CDAC certificate.

Dr. Caine is licensed in the State of California as a physician, and is Board Certified in Family Practice and by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Caine has worked in the field of addiction medicine since the year 2000. He is dedicated to helping people recover from addiction to drugs and alcohol, using the most current practices. He is a friend to those in recovery, no matter their circumstances, never judging and always caring. He speaks Spanish and English. His work history demonstrates his passion for helping others improve their lives, as early on in his career he was a physician at an orphanage in Guatemala, and his work to help others in need remains his driving force today.
Dr. Hillary Berens, a valued member of the Avalon team since 2013, holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). With a wealth of experience and expertise, Dr. Berens is adept at swiftly identifying and addressing complex issues, guiding clients towards improved interpersonal relationships.
Specializing in the treatment of PTSD and anxiety, Dr. Berens is highly effective in helping clients resolve trauma-related feelings, providing significant symptom relief. Her therapeutic approach focuses on addiction and anxiety disorders, utilizing brief solution-focused therapy strategies to achieve meaningful and lasting results.
With a career spanning over two decades in the Malibu Treatment Center setting, Dr. Berens has honed her skills and deepened her understanding of effective therapeutic practices. Her commitment to excellence and her compassionate approach make her an exceptional clinician dedicated to fostering healing and growth for her clients.
Dr. Stacy Cohen, M.D., is a highly esteemed double board-certified general and addiction psychiatrist, licensed to practice in both New York and California. She completed her residency training at the University of Chicago and Rush University, followed by an addiction psychiatry fellowship at UCLA Medical Center. With extensive experience across all levels of care-from detox to residential treatment to intensive outpatient programs-Dr. Cohen has served as the Medical Director of several treatment facilities, demonstrating her exceptional leadership and clinical expertise.
In 2019, Dr. Cohen founded The Moment Health, an innovative outpatient mental health center that offers integrative care across the lifespan. The Moment is distinguished by its progressive, collaborative, mind-body-spirit approach.
Dr. Cohen is passionate about advancing community education on mental health treatment and has contributed to medical literature on a wide range of topics. Her current focus includes exploring solutions for treatment-resistant conditions, certified pain reprocessing therapy for chronic pain management, and the thoughtful implementation of psychedelic-assisted therapy for trauma recovery. Dr. William D. Stanley, M.D., is a distinguished physician with a robust background in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ, after completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. He further pursued a Master's program in Anatomy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore City campus, before transitioning to medical school.
Dr. Stanley completed his residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, where he honed his expertise in Internal Medicine across both inpatient and outpatient settings. His professional journey led him to establish Parkside Medical Associates, PA in Trenton, NJ, where he employed four physicians and developed a keen interest in substance abuse treatment.
In 1998, Dr. Stanley began his involvement with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), achieving board certification in Addiction Medicine in 2000, and later with the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) in 2010. Since 2013, he has dedicated his practice exclusively to the treatment of substance use disorders.
Before joining Dr. Benya and her team in California, Dr. Stanley served as the Medical Director of an inpatient detox unit and two outpatient treatment programs in New Jersey. His extensive experience and dedication to addiction medicine have made him a valuable asset in the field.
Dr. Stanley holds active medical licenses in both New Jersey and California, bringing his comprehensive knowledge and compassionate care to the Avalon team. His commitment to helping individuals overcome substance use disorders underscores his distinguished career and unwavering dedication to his patients' well-being.
Jennifer Moriarty graduated in 2013 from Loyola Marymount University with a Master's in Counseling with a focus on Mental Health. In an effort to continue her education, she completed the Addictive Disorders Program at Oxnard College in 2019. Her dedication to the service of others prompted her to earn an Addictive Disorders Certificate, to better serve those struggling with addiction.
Born and raised in Orange County CA, Jennifer Moriarty discovered her passion for helping others early on. Her involvement in child-centered charitable organizations prompted her to focus her undergraduate work in Early Childhood Education. Jennifer loves working at Avalon and feels at home within this wonderful community.
Jennifer lives in Camarillo. She is happily married to her husband Brian, and they adore raising their spirited teenage daughter Sarah.
Jennifer is committed to treating the whole person and is passionate about supporting others on their journey toward living their best life.
Kathryn Mandel Johnson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and then continued on to earn her Masters degree from Phillipps Graduate Institute. Kathryn has been a licensed therapist since 2000.
Kathryn has an extensive background working with clients dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues. She was the clinical director of a detox and residential program in Malibu for over 15 years as well as overseeing a partial hospitalization program and an intensive outpatient program. Previously she also served as the clinical director of an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit. Kathryn has been a clinical supervisor and has trained and supervised interns in treatment centers as well as working as an adjunct professor at Phillips Graduate Institute teaching group dynamics
Kathryn understands the importance of creating a safe environment for clients to heal and begin to make changes in their lives. She enjoys helping her clients learn empathy for themselves and others and gain an increased understanding of how they got to the place they are at now. She works with clients to help them gain the skills they need to live a life with passion and purpose. Forming a collaborative relationship with clients and their families to gain a clear picture of their goals has allowed them to make the changes necessary to break old patterns and begin leading the life they want for themselves.
Kathryn provides sessions focused on individual clients' needs and helps them achieve their goals and recognize their full potential. She fosters an environment where clients can feel safe to explore destructive thought patterns and behaviors and begin to see hope for a different future. She enables clients to understand how their past experiences have shaped their behavior and choices today.

Laura Morgan Lambuth, BA, CHt, CMTI, graduated with top honors from the renowned Hypnosis Motivation Institute in Tarzana, California, where she earned both the Academic Achievement Award and the Director's Award. She is a Certified Hypnotherapist and a Certified Master of Therapeutic Imagery. Laura's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1986, where she developed her enduring interest in consciousness and human behavior.
As a hypnotherapist, Laura Morgan employs the tools of hypnosis and therapeutic guided imagery to facilitate profound personal transformation and growth in her clients. By delving into the subconscious mind, she helps uproot negative patterns, habits, and beliefs, replacing them with positive new thoughts and pathways, fostering healing and empowerment from within.
Laura's professional journey is enriched by her extensive certifications and continuing education, which include specialized training in cancer treatment hypnosis, trauma energy clearing, cognitive behavioral therapy integration, and energy healing Qi balancing. Her background in dance, movement, and theater, combined with her experience as an aerial acrobat, enhances her unique perspective on balance, peace, and self-awareness.
Laura's lifelong exploration of healing, yoga, and the metaphysical and spiritual realms has deepened her understanding that love and compassion are the most potent healing forces. Sober since 2001, Laurie draws on her personal recovery journey to support and guide others seeking sobriety. Her dedication to recovery is also shared by her daughter, who has been sober for nearly 20 years.
Outside of her professional life, Laurie enjoys snow skiing, practicing yoga, and spending quality time with her family. She is an active participant in recovery meetings throughout Ventura County, where she continues to support and connect with the recovery community. Laurie's commitment to helping others and her enthusiasm for life in recovery make her an inspiring presence in the field.

Monica has earned both Bachelors and Master's Degrees in Nutrition and Food Science from California State University, Northridge and has been a registered dietitian nutritionist for the past 18 years. She lives in Ojai, California, and provides Medical Nutrition Therapy, nutrition education, and counseling for individuals and families within Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties, and Los Angeles counties.
She has worked in a variety of settings such as acute hospitals, outpatient treatment facilities for eating disorders and mental health and substance abuse, in-home health care, as a personal trainer, and has even planned and prepared meals for professional athletes. Monica's goal in working with people is to provide them with accurate information and knowledge about nutrition and to guide them in eating healthier, feeling better, and embracing eating as an enjoyable experience.
Peggy Gelber's journey in recovery began with a profound moment of clarity at a meeting, where she saw a sign that read, "Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help others achieve sobriety." This realization ignited her passion and purpose in life. Shortly thereafter, Peggy earned her Substance Abuse and Addiction Counseling Certificate from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA. Now celebrating 25 years of sobriety, she brings over 23 years of experience in working with individuals and groups in the field of recovery.
Peggy is a strong advocate for advancing the treatment of co-occurring disorders, recognizing the need for better education and training in addressing both addiction and mental illness. She is excited to be part of this paradigm shift, contributing to the growth and development of more comprehensive treatment approaches.
Originally from the picturesque town of Thompson Falls, Montana, Peggy maintains close ties with her family and visits them regularly. Her life is enriched by her three-year-old grandson, Wyatt, and her two boxers, Bailee and Xena, who bring her immense joy and keep her active.

Born out of a passion for service, Sloane Spanierman has worked in and around the behavioral health field for over fifteen years. In addition to a decade-long career in sales, Sloane has co-led therapeutic groups, and worked as a life coach, recovery coach, interventionist, and case manager. In 2016, Sloane opened and served as Program Director for a female-only sober living facility in Westport, CT.
Sloane found her calling merging her love of business with her commitment to helping others as a national business development executive. She works globally with individuals, families, corporations, facilities, and professionals. Sloane uses her creativity and extensive knowledge of the behavioral health landscape to curate customized solutions, services, and interventions for her clients.
Sloane resides in New York City with her seven-year-old son. She devotes her free time to philanthropic endeavors including addiction and prematurity advocacy. Sloane is a certified yoga and meditation teacher and is very passionate about mentoring other women.
