Bill Phythian joined Calgary Tent & Awning Ltd. In 1957. He and Les Thorne bought the company from Norm Birch in 1968. Les Thorne retired in 1986 and Bill Phythian retired in 1999. The company was sold to Jeff Phythian and Marty Way. In 2002 Marty became the sole owner of the company until 2013. Calgary Tent & Awning Ltd. Is currently co-owned by Kerry Egan and Mike Steele.
Coming up with innovative solutions is fundamental to the shop foreman's job and Jeff Phythian is a master at it. With 35 years of experience, Jeff has a knack for visualizing the situation from different angles, then coming up with workable solutions. He is then able to communicate the vision to production people, welders and installers to make the job happen.
Having worked at Calgary Tent & Awning for a quarter-century, Judy is quite unique in her ability to integrate contemporary, computer-aided design and digital expertise with some old-fashioned techniques of hand-drawing that deliver timeless quality. Judy has taken her studies at Alberta College of Art and Design, majoring in textiles, and fashioned it into an artistic career designing and applying graphics to awnings and custom textile end-products.
The friendly voice that greets telephone callers to Calgary Tent & Awning is that of Kerry Egan. In addition to being the knowledgeable person whom customers encounter, Kerry schedules work going through the shop, plans our expert installations, and handles accounting for the business.
Mike Steele is owner and general manager of Calgary Tent and Awning. With his 35 years of experience he is also responsible for our commercial awning sales - and is also the company's foremost expert on installations and awning automation.
With over 8 years of installation experience at Calgary Tent, Tanner has transitioned nicely into residential sales. He brings knowledge and confidence in the products and service we provide.
