Dr. Chris V. Rey

The Honorable Dr. Chris V. Rey was born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands but spent his formidable years in Spring Lake, North Carolina. He graduated from Pine Forest Senior High as a track and field All-American and attended East Carolina University on a full athletic scholarship. As a student leader, he was known for taking the initiative of addressing racial inequality on campus. He was often recognized by university leaders for working to make the campus a more open and diverse epicenter of learning. In 2000, Dr. Rey enlisted into the U.S. Army as a computer information technology analyst. After two short years, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School. Thereafter, he saw deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His service and leadership in the armed forces earned him numerous military awards and accolades including the Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Dr. Rey began studies at William & Mary School of Law, the nation's oldest law school. Upon graduation he worked for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) writing cyber security policy for the nation to help address the global threat of cyber-attacks on America. In 2008 Dr. Rey was elected to be a member of the United States Electoral College to officially cast the ballot to elect the President and Vice President of the United States. In 2011, at the age of 34, Dr. Rey was elected the youngest Mayor of the City of Spring Lake, North Carolina where he served three terms from 2011 to 2017. Professionally, Dr. Rey serves as the Director of Strategic Partnerships for the March of Dimes, one of the nation's oldest and most respected non-profit organizations committed to leading the fight for all moms and babies. Most recently Dr. Rey served as the Mid-Atlantic Region Corporate Executive for Sodexo, North America where he directed all business aspects of his district to include account operations, growth, retention, people development, training, accountability and driving all business outcomes for New Jersey's largest urban school districts servicing over 30,000 students. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the criminal justice departments at the University of Mount Olive where he teaches classes on constitutional law, criminal law, juvenile justice, criminal courts, and cyber-crimes. Dr. Rey has presented around the world most recently in Central America on the importance of local governments having a strategic economic plan for its citizens and growing its community. Dr. Rey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Information Systems, a Juris Doctor Degree from William & Mary School of Law and currently pursuing an Executive Masters in Cyber Security from Brown University. Dr. Rey is a graduate of the University of Virginia Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership. He is the former Chairman of the Cumberland County Partnership for Children, Board Member of the Fayetteville Technical Community College Foundation, Board Member of the North Carolina Public School Forum and currently serving as International Director of Social Action for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Chris V. Rey is married to Adwoa Rey and they have four children.

Prof. Dr. Ian Mackechnie

Ian Mackechnie has been involved in undergraduate and post graduate studies in a number of international universities for over twenty years, including institutions of higher learning in the UK, the USA, Europe, China, Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. Doctor Mackechnie has also been deeply involved in the supervision of doctoral candidates, and teaching in graduate seminars. Prior to entering academic life, Ian Mackechnie was working in senior management positions in a variety of companies and industries within Australia. His area of research interest is in the areas of moral theory and business ethics. He currently has a book pending for publication in the area of the moral theory of the famous economist and political philosopher, Adam Smith. Ian Mackechnie holds a Ph.D. in Business Management from Bulacan State University, a Master of Commerce from the University of Southern Queensland, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Charles Sturt University, a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of South Australia, a Bachelor of Arts from Griffith University, and an Advanced Diploma in Business (Accounting) from the Box Hill College.
