Demaris and Hank remained active in the Rice community throughout their lives. Even though this exceptional couple is no longer with us, we will continue to celebrate their pursuit of knowledge through Scientia and future De Lange Conferences... Today we are faced with provocative questions about the future of a new generation of genetic tools - including CRISPR genome editing - that promise to transform our health, our bodies and our world. Additionally, we are encountering novel challenges related to machine learning, computer technologies, and the uses of data and surveillance.
