Since its establishment in 2006, the Fisher Center, located in the heart of Washington, D.C., has gained local and national recognition for cutting-edge research and education in the field of cancer genetic counseling and testing. As the Fisher Center has matured, the field of cancer genomics has grown to encompass the study of thousands of genes and how they interact with the environment to cause disease. These advances have led to personalized treatments based not only on an individual's hereditary cancer risks, but also on his or her tumor genomic profile (which assesses non-hereditary mutations).
