ANTHONY CARRINO

A resident of Jersey City, living just around the corner from Battello, Anthony is a builder and designer who specializing in commercial, residential, family-home renovations. He is well known across the country as a co-host of HGTV's Kitchen Cousins. With its 30' ceilings and beautiful, original wood trusses Carrino's overall goal was to have Battello unfold slowly by layering design elements in a subtle way that created the feeling of being inside a boathouse but allowed patrons to continue to discover new elements each time they visit.

CARMINE DEPASQUALE

Growing up in a first generation Italian household, Carmine DePasquale, developed a passion for hospitality at an early age. The hospitable welcoming culture of sharing great food with friends and family - is embedded in Carmine's DNA. Carmine was first introduced to the restaurant industry at the young age of 12. Starting as a young dishwasher and eventually working up his way to line cook, developing a passion for the business at a young age. His path eventually led him to acquire a BA at the Culinary Institute of America, proceeded by furthering his Old World Hospitality Culture by attending "Istituto Superiore delle Cucine Regionali d'Italia." Traveling Italy & Europe working in Michelin Starred restaurants, Il Mulinazzo by Nino Graziano & Antica Corte Pallavicina Relais by Massimo Spigaroli. Immediately upon his return to the states, his passion brought him to Las Vegas where Carmine continued to grow his hospitality knowledge at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill and Nove Italiano Steakhouse at the Palms. Returning to NJ in 2010, DePasquale joined the Terra Momo Restaurant Group in Princeton as Director Of Operations of Mediterra, Eno Terra as well as Opening Enoteca Ursino. A short break from the restaurants with a brief stint at Ome Caterers, NJ's exclusive off premise caterers.

CORY CHECKET - CEO

After cutting his teeth in the bar and restaurant scene of Hoboken for over 10 years (most notably the Turtle Club), Mr. Checket took his talents to Jersey City to fulfill a life-long dream of operating a wedding and banquet facility. Battello has blossomed into one of the premier dining and banquet venues in the state of NJ. Still a very hands-on operator, Checket continues to explore his passion to deliver exceptional food paired with flawless service in one of the most beautiful restaurants in the state. A certified sommelier, Cory oversees the beverage program and has curated an extensive wine list comprising of more than 200 labels and a progressive cocktail program focusing on classic cocktails with a modern twist. In addition to Battello, Checket, along with partners Joseph Calafiore and Ryan DePersio, oversee the business operation's of their sister restaurant, The Kitchen Step, located in the Van Vorst section of Jersey City. This modern-American bistro has been a neighborhood staple since it's opening in 2016. When not greeting guests at one of his restaurants, he can be found golfing, snowboarding, or teaching his toddler daughter about tannins and why Italy makes the best wine.

DOMINIQUE BORZOMATI

Born and raised in Montclair, NJ, Borzomati first fell in love with event planning and the restaurant business as a little girl growing up in her uncle's restaurant in New York. After high school, Borzomati got her start working with Battello executive Chef Ryan DePersio at his flagship restaurant, Fascino, where she discovered her passion for food and the restaurant industry and had the opportunity to learn all aspects of front & back of house from one of the best in the business. After graduating from Johnson & Wales with a degree in Food & Beverage Management, Dominique accepted a position working with one of New Jersey's largest catering company, Frugilio Caterers, where she began learning the in's and out's of the wedding industry and private events. It is here where her love for planning parties began. After a brief stint at The Grove, she journeyed cross the Hudson, spending two years running food and beverage operations and serving as special events coordinator for the W New York Downtown, followed by time spent as restaurant manager of Mondrian Soho's Isola. Passionate about the importance of special events and private dining, Borzomati returned to New Jersey to serve as director of events for Battello in 2014. She leads a team that pays attention to individual needs of clients and thrives to create truly memorable moments.

JOE CALAFIORE - COO

A northern Jersey native, Calafiore's first experience within the restaurant industry was at his cousin's deli near his hometown of Nutley, where as a child he bused tables. At age 18, Joe joined the team at Milan, an upscale restaurant/lounge in Morris County, tending bar and as a server. Joe's talent for managing business operations was quickly noted by management and just months later, he was rewarded with a promotion to Manager. Three years later, the opportunity for Calafiore to further develop his restaurant industry expertise knocked when he was approached by Hoboken's 3Forty Grill to serve as the restaurant's manager. Over the course of nine years, Calafiore oversaw 3Forty Grill's business operations, helping to build its reputation as a modern martini lounge on the Hoboken waterfront. Joe has assisted in opening of several notable New Jersey restaurants. After a brief stint in finance, Joe returned to his first love and true professional calling of building a career in the restaurant industry when in 2013 he was approached by his longtime friend, Cory, to assist him in realizing his dream of opening a full-scale restaurant on the Jersey City waterfront. At Battello, only the Manhattan skyline that serves as the restaurant's stunning backdrop shadows Joe's passion for the service industry and for establishing Battello as one of New Jersey's premier private dining and catering destinations.

MIKE SANGI

  • Assistant General Manager
As the Assistant General Manager, Mike Sangi is well-known for his winning attitude and desire to deliver an exceptional dining experience beyond guests' expectations. He is organized, ambitious, and highly adaptable to manage all the aspects of the restaurant including food and bar with the intention of bringing joy to others. A lifelong resident of Bayonne, he studied Psychology before realizing he wanted to follow a different career path. Driven by a great desire to serve others, Mike started busing at Venice in Bayonne. Due to his exemplary performance, he managed to become a bartender within a year. At the core, Mike's customer service, positive attitude, and compassion are the secret behind his success in the industry. By taking an immersive approach to leadership, Mike achieves superior results by training his team of professionals and demonstrating the level of integrity, self-motivation, and excellence required of an effective manager. He leads by example and makes the hospitality industry fun. When he is not busy putting everything into order, you will find him reading or playing video games.
