Bob Giannino is the President & CEO of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, one of Greater Boston's leading civic institutions and New England's largest local United Way, covering more than 150 communities across Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. In this work, Bob supports a team of 100 full and part-time staff who oversee partnerships with more than 175 nonprofit agencies, hundreds of private sector corporate partners, and grantmaking that exceeds $25+ million.
Prior to joining United Way, Bob served as the CEO of uAspire, the nation's leading nonprofit focused on helping young people and families navigate an affordable path to a postsecondary degree. Over 15 years, Bob oversaw the transformation of uAspire from a small, local organization serving 1,000 young people in Boston into a national, award-winning, enterprise reaching more than 25 states and 300,000 students each year. In addition to its direct service programming, uAspire's policy and systems change efforts will lead to dramatically improved financial access to a college degree and economic opportunity for millions of young people.
Before uAspire, Bob served as Vice President of Business Development and Government Relations at Jumpstart for Young Children, where he oversaw a dramatic increase in site expansion and government investment in this leading national early childhood organization. Prior to that, Bob worked for Procter & Gamble in their customer business development division, where he partnered with regional companies across New England to increase their sales of P&G branded products. And, as a college student, Bob played a pivotal role in the founding of AmeriCorps, the national service program founded by President Clinton.
From 2015-2020, Bob served on the Faculty of the Institute for Nonprofit Practice and has been recognized by numerous key Greater Boston organizations for his contributions to and leadership without our community. In 2015, Bob was awarded the prestigious Barr Fellowship for his "outstanding contribution to the Boston community potential to drive positive change for years to come," and his leadership has been recognized by New Profit, Freedom House, Year Up, Social Capital Inc, the Boston Business Journal, the Harvard Club of Boston, and the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Bob's work has been featured in dozens of media outlets including NPR, Time Magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Huffington Post, Bay State Banner, Boston Business Journal, Los Angeles Times, and Chronicle of Higher Education.
Bob serves on the governing boards of Idealist.org, the Boston Opportunity Agenda, Root Cause, the National Gay Flag Football League, and as Chair of the Board of Y2Y Network, greater Boston's youth-led homeless shelter. Bob also sits on the advisory boards for Thrive Scholars and Excel Academy Charter Schools. As the first in his family to attend college, a product of the Somerville (MA) Public Schools, and a graduate of Harvard College, Bob knows first-hand the vital role that community based programs and nonprofit organizations play in paving a path to opportunity for all young people. Bob lives in East Boston, with his husband Cameron, and has a son who works for Planned Parenthood in Florida.
In addition to serving on the Board of Idealist, Bob serves board of the Phillips Brooks House Association at Harvard, and is on the Advisory Board of Excel Academy Charter Schools.
As the first in his family to attend college, a product of the Somerville (MA) Public Schools, and a graduate of Harvard College, Bob knows the vital role that strong financial aid advice and minimizing debt plays in ensuring a strong economic future. He resides in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.

Kath Connolly has spent her career listening, writing, synthesizing and bringing people together to make things happen in education, the arts and public life. As an independent consultant she has worked with all kinds of organizations including colleges, non-profit and campaigns. Kath served as director of partnerships at The Learning Community a public school in Central Falls, RI that also serves as a professional development center for teachers.
Kath was the Senior Associate Director at Brown University's Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service, a pioneer in reimagining public service in higher education. She facilitated programs in the arts, community development, education and information technology and created Careers in the Common Good, a nationally recognized program that supports young people in pursuing lives of purpose. She has been a designer at a children's museum, a public policy researcher, the director of a grassroots education network, and an independent consultant.
She was a founding board member of Farm Fresh Rhode Island, BSR 88.1 FM, and New Urban Arts. She also founded a greeting card company, Card Carrying Liberal, that channeled funds into swing states during W's second run and worked with clients including EMILYs List and the DNC to raise visibility. She serves as an advisor to Girls Rock RI, the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and the Office of Congressman David Cicilline. Kath lives in Providence, RI.
