​Alfred Newhard started Lehigh Underwriters in 1929 with the idea of offering auto insurance and homeowners insurance in Allentown, Bethlehem and the surrounding Lehigh Valley area. The business grew and Alfred's son, Alfred Jr., joined Lehigh Underwriters and expanded the auto and home insurance offerings. By the 1970's, Lehigh Underwriters offered homeowner insurance and car insurance not only in Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, but throughout Lehigh County and Northampton County... The business continued to grow, and in the 1980's Alfred III (Fred) joined the Newhard's company followed by his brother Jim Newhard. Truly a multi-generational company, Lehigh Underwriters continues to expand their insurance offerings beyond auto insurance and home insurance. The Newhards also offer motorcycle insurance, mobile home insurance, renter's insurance (insurance for renters of houses or apartments), and even recreational vehicle - RV insurance...
