Brian Smith is a founding partner of CSP Acoustics LLP and is responsible for business development, financial management and project control. Brian has over 30 years' experience as a Chartered Architect and brings to CSPA extensive knowledge of building procurement methods, construction site-based issues, detailing solutions and collaborative design team approaches. His understanding of the complexities of modern building techniques and problems faced by both designers and builders gives him a unique perspective on the value that acousticians can add to every project.

James attained a bachelor's degree in Audio Technology and Internet Technology in 2002 from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. He initially became an I.T. Trainer on the use of Microsoft Office applications. In his own time, he went on to study the IOA's post graduate diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control. During the course, he gained employment at a large independent acoustic consultancy in Suffolk. Starting in 2005, James remained at this consultancy, where he progressed from trainee consultant to acoustic consultant and then to senior consultant. In the 14 years there, James worked on numerous projects; mainly specialising in architectural and building acoustics, such as mixed-use residential schemes, student accommodation schemes, educational facilities, and office developments. These schemes ranged from large regeneration developments to smaller building conversions and covered new build and refurbishment projects. James also dealt with projects at the planning stage, assessing the impact of various new proposals to and from noise sensitive locations.
James joined CSP acoustics in 2019 and is looking forward to assisting clients by delivering pragmatic acoustic advice to any scheme or development.
