David Thornicroft - Managing Director

St Thomas Training's Managing Director is David Thornicroft, who has many years' experience of working in, and delivering training for, the health and social care sector. His background is mainly residential work - in probation and bail hostels, children's homes and homes for adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities and dementia. He was a Probation Officer in the Stratford/Forest Gate area of north east London, and he set up and managed a training department for Umbrella, a mental health charity in central London. For the past 20 years or so David has run his own training companies, firstly in Hertfordshire and latterly in Lymington, Hampshire, where St Thomas Training has its head office. Don't be fooled by our southerly location however - we are happy to deliver our training at your venue anywhere in the UK. Ruth Thornicroft - COO

  • Operations Director
Our Operations Director is Ruth Thornicroft, who joined us in June 2016. She is the person you are most likely to deal with when you first email or telephone us. In Ruth's previous role as Operations Director she took care of the company finances, and the day to day running, of a private limited company which facilitated over 200 clients and employed in excess of 350 employees. With a strong customer focus, and an eye for detail, Ruth ensures that our customers receive excellent value for money and the best possible training for their employees and volunteers. Amongst other roles Ruth was the coordinator for the assisted volunteer programme at The Watford Council for Voluntary Services, and the experience she gained whilst in this position gives her a strong understanding of the voluntary and local authority sector.

Sarah Chafer

Job Titles:
  • Head of First Aid Training
As Head of First Aid Training, Sarah's role includes creating course content, looking after first aid contracts, managing first aid trainers, and of course teaching first aid to our customers. Sarah is a volunteer First Responder for South Central Ambulance Service, where she is trained and despatched by the ambulance service to respond to medical and trauma emergencies in the local community. Having this experience allows Sarah to relate her first aid training to real life scenarios and adapt to individual's training requirements. Sarah's teaching background is mainly the outdoor industry where she has delivered training in a range of sports and environments. She is also an approved first aid instructor for Ofqual's Level 3 adult and paediatric first aid qualifications and holds a First Aid Internal Quality Assurance certificate to ensure all first aid training is delivered to the highest standard at St Thomas Training.
