Catherine Dillon MS, is the Associated Director of The Data Coordination Unit in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received her MS in Clinical Trial Administration from George Washington University in 2015. As the Associate Director of the DCU, she provides oversight and direction for the clinical trial operation activities conducted within the unit and across collaborations. She has overseen a broad range of project, data, and regulatory management activities for more than 70 phase I-IV protocols including multi-site, international, industry and federally funded, acute and exception from informed consent trials.

Experience: Phase II-III clinical trials; drug and device trials Christy Cassarly, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received her PhD in Biostatistics from MUSC (2017). Dr. Cassarly serves as the statistical PI or co-I of both NIH-funded, multicenter Phase II and III clinical trials as well as smaller exploratory clinical trials spanning disease areas of stroke and neurological rehabilitation. As a recent graduate, her dissertation work focused on the analysis of longitudinal ordinal measures. Current research interests include development of adaptive trial designs, futility designs, and measurement validation.

She is funded by the NETT Network Statistical and Data Management Center and the NINDS Neuroprotection Exploratory Trials in Parkinson's Disease (NET-PD) Statistical Center. She has been involved in the design, conduct, and analysis of multi-center, randomized phase II and phase III clinical trials in the areas of Parkinson's disease, stroke, and emergency medicine. The development of adaptive trial designs, futility designs, measurement validation, and approaches to measuring neuroprotection in Neurology are areas of active research interest.

Renee Martin, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Biostatistics Section Head for the Data Coordination Unit. She has extensive experience and expertise in the planning, implementation and analysis of Phase I-III clinical trials. With emphasis in stroke therapies and aneurysm repair, she serves or has served as an unblinded statistician for several NINDS-sponsored and industry-sponsored. Dr. Martin has served as the primary statistician and statistical PI for the ALISAH, LARGE, ENACT trials and the Phase I trial of N-acetylcysteine in maternal chorioamnionitis to decrease inflammation in the fetal brain and improve neurologic outcomes (CHORIO). Dr. Martin also serves as the primary statistician for the Characterization of Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis using High-resolution MRI (CHIASM) Study and the CTA Spot Sign Score in Acute Cerebral Hemorrhage (SCORE-IT) Study which focus on MRI and/or brain imaging for prediction of clinical outcomes rather than therapeutic interventions, and she has participated as a statistical member of the NINDS-appointed DSMB for the ARUBA trial of arteriovenous malformation and currently serves on the Core DSMB for the NINDS NeuroNEXT projects. Dr. Martin also works collaboratively with DCU faculty/students to publish on methodological issues in clinical trials, such as covariate imbalance and adaptive randomization in clinical trial designs and statistical aspects of interim analysis.

Experience: Phase I-III clinical trials; Experimental design and statistical methods for assessing dose response Sharon Yeatts, PhD, is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received her MS in Statistics from the University of South Carolina (2002) and her PhD in Biostatistics from Virginia Commonwealth University (2006). As a faculty member in the Data Coordination Unit, Dr. Yeatts is involved in the design, conduct, and analysis of multicenter clinical trials in neurological disorders and emergency medicine. Dr. Yeatts is co-PI of the Data Coordinating Center for the SIREN (Strategies to Innovate Emergency Care Clinical Trials) network. She is PI of the DCC for several clinical trials conducted within the SIREN network: C3PO (Clinical Trial of COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma of Outpatients), ICECAP (Influence of Cooling Duration on Efficacy in Cardiac Arrest Patients), and BOOST-3 (Brain Oxygen Optimization in Severe TBI Phase-3). Dr. Yeatts is also PI of the Data Management Center for SATURN (Statins in Intracerebral Hemorrhage), conducted within the StrokeNet network. Dr. Yeatts actively serves on grant review panels as well as DSMBs and is Statistical Editor of Stroke.

Valerie Durkalski

Valerie Durkalski, MPH, PhD, is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the Director of The Data Coordination Unit. She received her M.P.H. from Emory University (1996) and her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from MUSC (2001). As Director of the DCU, she collaborates on several large multicenter clinical trials in various therapeutic areas and has published and presented on various topics related to the design and conduct of multicenter trials. Currently, she is co-PI of the Statistical and Data Management Center (SDMC) for the NINDS sponsored Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trial Network (The NETT Network) and PI of the SDMC for the NIDDK sponsored Acute Liver Failure Study Group (ALFSG). In addition to these roles, Dr. Durkalski has research interests in non-inferiority trials as well as the implementation and analysis of adaptive trial designs.
