Julian is our Senior Gastroenterologist, he has lived and worked in Gippsland since 2010. He did his internship at Bairnsdale Health Service from which his love of the country grew. He completed the majority of his basic and advanced physician training with the Austin Liver Transplantation Unit in Melbourne. He is passionate about the care of patients with chronic liver disease and viral hepatitis. He has significant other areas of interest including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Reflux disease and IBS. He commenced Hydrogen/ Methane breath testing at Gippsland Gastro to define dietary triggers to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Julian is a keen educator and has mentored many outstanding junior clinicians. He is working to establish a regional network of like minded professionals to provide an efficient and timely specialised GI service.

Dr Matt Kitson

Matt studied Medicine at the University of Queensland, graduating with Honours in 2001. After initially training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane he moved to London, working at the Royal Free and Royal London Hospitals, and then returned to Australia to complete Gastroenterology training at the Alfred and St Vincent's Hospitals, obtaining his FRACP in 2011. He was awarded a PhD by Monash University in 2015; his thesis evaluated vitamin D status in liver disease. Matt is dedicated to patient-centered care and manages all aspects of Gastroenterology & Hepatology including liver disease, bowel cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, undifferentiated abdominal pain and functional bowel disorders. He is a member of the Alfred Hospital Gastroenterology Department senior medical staff, a Senior Lecturer at Monash University and serves regional Victoria as a visiting Gastroenterologist to Traralgon and Bairnsdale. Matt has over 40 publications and conference presentations in peer-reviewed international journals and at both national and international conferences.

Dr Sern Wei Yeoh

Dr Sern Yeoh (MBBS, BMedSci, FRACP, MPH) grew up in Melbourne and graduated on a full academic scholarship from the University of Melbourne Medical School. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and a postgraduate Masters of Public Health, accomplishing all his degrees with honours. He has extensive specialist experience from training and work in hospitals as a gastroenterologist and hepatologist throughout Australia. He has presented research at international conferences; and has both authored and reviewed publications in clinical textbooks and peer-reviewed journals. Dr Yeoh has a particular interest in liver disease having undertaken a combined research/clinical hepatology fellowship through Eastern Health in Melbourne; and was subsequently awarded a competitive fellowship in advanced hepatology at St James's University Hospital in the United Kingdom. Here, he treated critically ill patients, including those requiring liver transplantation, in one of Europe's largest teaching centres. Dr Yeoh maintains interest in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology including liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, iron deficiency, constipation, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. He prides himself on excellent communication and frequently receives positive feedback from his patients. He believes that careful listening to patients' needs and concerns will always achieve the best outcomes.

Our Practice Manager Jodie joined the team in July 2017. Jodie brings energy and professionalism to the team with many years experience in administration and Human Resource management. Jodie has also worked in Education, training and coaching in business management and leadership programs. As a highly experienced administrative professional, Jodie is particularly well placed to foster relationships and organise the best possible services and care for our patients. Jodie is an experienced Hydrogen/Methane Breath Testing Technician. Jodie can also assist you with your capsule endoscopy as a trained technician.
