Paul Simon Abbot

Job Titles:
  • Principal
A childhood obsession with houses found Paul usually surrounded by piles of lego, graph paper, pencils, bits of balsa wood and glue. Training and working as a chef after leaving school, his passion never really went away entirely. It wasn't until the early 90's, newly married and a dad, that Paul dived into tertiary education as a mature age student to become qualified to do what he loves. He now makes a living from his true calling. His wife calls him the luckiest man alive. Paul gets as much pleasure from designing a thoughtfully-proportioned and well-detailed carport as he does a new luxury mansion. He and his team continue to do both, and everything else in between. Projects from tiny sites in the inner city to sprawling homes on expansive acreages; they all provide their own unique challenges, and perhaps with the exception of some of the more tedious "Clerkitecture" tasks that come with the job, (insert quiet groan at this point) and the vast quantities of red tape that go with them, Paul's pleasure in delivering people lovely spaces to live in and enjoy is clearly evident. Born and educated in La Réunion (Reunion Island), and graduating with a master's degree in architecture from Stuttgart University, Maëlle also loves houses. All kinds of houses. She also has a keen interest in efficient green technologies and building systems, and brings a welcome combination French passion tempered with Germanic rigour and discipline to the practice. A dab hand in a staggering range of CAD and presentation software, as well as a much appreciated and needed technical whiz, Maëlle, as Paul's "right hand man", has a great deal to offer in the smooth and timely delivery of Fineline's unique services.
