I grew up on a cattle ranch in northern California. I was handed my first firearm at age 8. By handed, I mean I was literally handed my fathers .22 rifle. He showed me how to load it, how to fire it, and set me loose on the ranch on my own. That is a disaster, if not a tragedy, waiting to happen. Thankfully, I happened to run across some very good friends who showed me the basics as I grew older. I have been learning, training and teaching new shooters ever since... When I was in college, I met my wife and she was my first real student. My wife grew up in the city and had almost no experience with firearms. Today, she is great shot and very confident around all types of firearms, the same goes for our two children. When our family spends the day target shooting, it's usually my daughter's idea.
