PAPUNYA TJUPI ARTS

Papunya Tjupi Arts is a 100% Aboriginal owned and directed community arts organisation based in Papunya, the birthplace of the Western Desert painting movement. The artists of Papunya Tjupi have established their own unique identity based on the legacy of their forefathers. The Art Centre, located 250km NW of Alice Springs/Mparntwe, supports emerging artists and some of Australia's leading contemporary painters... We are located in Papunya Community, 250km northwest of Alice Springs/Mparntwe. Papunya is accessed via the Larapinta and Namatjira Drive Tourist Route. It is a sealed road until just past Glen Helen, the last service point before Papunya, and from there it is a 1-1.5 hour drive (78km) on unsealed road. Papunya can also be accessed via the Tanami road. The turn off to Papunya is approximately 130km from Alice Springs/ Mparntwe on the sealed section of the Tanami road, then, a further 1-1.5 hour drive (100km) on an unsealed road.
