UTC HARDWOODS - Key Persons

Paul Pomeroy

Paul Pomeroy has been fascinated by trees and lumber since he was a young boy that happened upon a book about wood. As a teen he along with his brother set up and operated a small hand mill in South Central New York. That mill grew and grew again. After his brother started his own separate mill, Paul became sole owner and operator of the original mill. He ran the mill and along with his wife Terry raised two daughters and a son. After almost 30 years the mill was severely devastated by a 500 year flood. Although heartbroken to see 30 years of blood, sweet and tears lying beneath eight feet of water, with a tremendous amount of help from fellow sawmills, Paul rebuilt the mill and it became operational again. Then change came again with the decision to sell the mill to a local reputable lumber company. Although hard to leave family, the area and the mill itself, Paul along with his wife and son, who was still at home, picked up and moved to Southern Missouri. For a very short time Paul thought he was finished with the wood industry. He was tired and maybe even a bit disheartened. But his love and knowledge of hardwood lumber could not lay dormant. He knew what he knew back as that young boy, working with wood was in him. He bought a tractor trailer load of lumber and opened up a shop selling hardwood lumber. Outgrowing his space, he moved to a larger shop up the road. Surrounded by all that incredible wood Paul started to create and build some pretty neat stuff. The past seven years have been filled with enjoyable hard work, creating and learning. The Mid-West is chock full of incredibly talented woodworkers who have sowed their expertise into Paul and his vision. Today UTC Hardwoods creates beautiful, functional solid hardwood pieces worthy of being passed down from generation to generation. Talk about a renewable resource!
