Amanda, Lead

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Professional and Caring Staff
  • Veterinary Technician
Born and raised in the Land of Enchantment (aka Albuquerque, NM), Amanda began working in Veterinary Medicine in 2003 while attending University in Southern California and instantly fell in love with the field. She finished school in San Diego, CA getting a degree in Photojournalism with a minor in Animal Science, in hopes of one day becoming a photographer for National Geographic, not knowing at the time that life had a different plan for her. She quickly made her way into specialty work focusing on Internal Medicine, Trauma and Critical Care. Working with patients in need of such specialized and round the clock medical attention inspired her to advance her education further and she went back to school to get her Paramedic certification. Several years ago she began working primarily with Non-Profit Organizations in the US, UK and South East Asia. She spent extended periods of time working with The Save the Elephant Foundation, Tech Aid International, United Asia Charity as well as multiple Humanitarian organizations working towards access to clean water, shelter and basic education for residents in rural regions of Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Although this work was incredibly rewarding, homesickness got the best of her and she made her way back to the West Coast settling in Portland. Since her return she found her way to the Alberta Vet Care team, joining our staff in 2018 and working her way up to become our Lead Vet Tech. She thoroughly enjoys facilitating a clinical environment that focuses on continuing education, cooperative medicine and superior patient care. In her spare time she loves to explore the PNW with her partner Patrick and their 2 year old Boston terrier, Mason. She is also a licensed skydiving instructor, amateur vegan cook, plant enthusiast, rock climber and freelance photojournalist.
