Amy Hooiveld

Amy Hooiveld is the director and myotherapist at InTune Myotherapy. Amy graduated with the Advanced Diploma in Myotherapy in 2004 from the Victorian College of Healthcare Education. After completing her supervised clinical placement at Muscular Health & Natural Therapies in Knoxfield, she began work there that same year, giving her over 9 years of practical experience in the field. Amy is a member of the IRMA (Institute of Registered Myotherapists of Australia) association and regularly attends their Seminars and Conferences, as well as more specific workshops, to further increase her knowledge and improve her skills. Being a keen sports person herself, Amy has played a large amount of basketball, as well as netball, and thoroughly enjoys gym & snowboarding. Through these interests, she has worked with local sports people and sports teams including Kilsyth Cobras Basketball Players (men & women), U18's girls Victoria Metro state basketball team and East Ringwood Football Club, however has mostly worked in a clinic environment treating and helping the general public with pain and injuries arising from every day activities (ie, work, stress, hobbies and exercise). Although Myotherapy is a great modality to treat a large range of conditions and pain complaints, Amy particularly enjoys working with neck pain and headaches as well as lower back pain, and is developing her knowledge and skills on Myotherapy during pregnancy. Working within the Coastal Balance clinic in Torquay, gives Amy the opportunity to work along side Physiothrapist Cindy Parks. This is a great avenue for assisting in developing post treatment strength and conditioning, giving patients the confidence to resume their regular lifestyles, pain free! Cindy Parks

Cindy has worked in private practice settings around the world - including Canada, New Zealand and Australia - since first graduating with a Master of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University, located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in 2003. After spending several years in the field of musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, Cindy completed a Master in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, gaining specialised assessment and advanced treatment skills for spinal, shoulder, hip and knee conditions. Cindy enjoys working with clients who are genuinely interested in getting back to performing their best whether at work, sport, or play. She is passionate about delivering high quality evidence-informed care to her clients and their families, and appreciates the need for short term pain relief and, more importantly, for long term prevention. Cindy has had the opportunity to treat many athletes including professional and amateur Canadian ice hockey players, as well as members of the New Zealand Ice Blacks. Her love of snow sports has enabled her to work with elite Canadian ski and snowboarders, and has taken her to Whistler, BC, and Queenstown, NZ. Her participation in competitive soccer has provided her with a unique insight into the rehabilitation of elite and recreational Canadian soccer players. Upon moving to Geelong, Victoria, Cindy became involved as a consultant physiotherapist to St. Joseph's Football Club for their 2009 season. Cindy grew up with an avid interest in all sports and competed in basketball, volleyball, athletics, soccer and skiing. Today, she still enjoys staying active with running, hiking, yoga, and snowboarding, as well as playing competitive soccer for the Surf Coast Football Club. Emily Centra

Emily graduated from La Trobe University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and has worked in private practices across Melbourne since then, gaining experience in treating a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Emily previously worked as head Physiotherapist for the Heidelberg Football Club for four years, and continues to have a special interest in rehabilitating sporting injuries and getting motivated people back to sport and high level function as quickly and as safely as possible. Emily has completed the sports level 1 and 2 courses to gain further knowledge in this field. Most recently, Emily has worked onsite for Virgin Australia, providing physiotherapy services to their staff and managing work related injuries. This has given her great exposure to the stresses related to repetitive, manual handling jobs, and has allowed Emily to develop skills in treating injuries that can develop in these situations. With several years of experience teaching Clinical Pilates, Emily likes to incorporate functional, core strengthening and postural retraining into client's rehabilitation. She also utilises dry needling and other manual techniques to relieve pain and tension with the overall ultimate goal of injury rehabilitation and long term prevention of recurrence. Emily relocated to the Surf Coast after spending a year abroad in South and Central America. She loves the ocean, is an ex-boatie, and is currently a developing surfer. She also enjoys social netball and tennis and is a long-suffering Collingwood supporter.

Joh Cornish

Joh has over 12 years-experience working in the field of Physiotherapy and mindful movement practices (Pilates & Yoga). She has completed many physiotherapy professional development courses, with the list getting too long for a bio. Joh uses manual/soft tissue therapy, dry needling, craniosacral therapy, motor control retraining, mindfulness, and exercise-based rehabilitation, in treatment sessions. Joh's passion in Physio is treating the whole person/whole body and creating a space where clients can connect with and learn about their body (injury/pain) and how to get the most out of it. In recent years Joh has undergone extensive training programs that support this "holistic" approach such as ConnectTherapy™ (biopsychosocial framework) and Thoracic Ring Approach™. The Thoracic Ring Approach™ is a technique created by LJ Lee that treats the upper back as a functional 3D unit, including techniques to release (sometimes un recognised) tension and regain optimal control and function of one of the biggest parts of the body - the trunk. These techniques are great for everyone but especially persistent upper back pain and those playing rotational sports like golf, tennis etc. Joh has facilitated on LJ Lees' courses when run in Australia over the past 5 years. Joh completed the full rehab series with Polestar Pilates along with the mentor training and is now a Mentor for Polestar facilitating the teacher training courses in Melbourne. Additionally, Joh studied Yoga in India with an intensive teacher training at the Sivananda Ashram. She has completed additional training in Yoga Therapy with Simon Borg Olivier a world-renowned Yoga Teacher and educator from Sydney. Joh is passionate about leading an active, happy, and meaningful life and loves helping her clients do the same. Joh is always keen to try new things, so when not at work you may find her rock climbing, SUP yogaing, chakra dancing, ice bathing or walking her pup Zen down the beach.
