Thomas Jarne

has over twenty years of experience of business development and the establishment of new ventures in the area of international telecommunications, with a focus on Europe and the Middle East. He has been actively involved in pursuing emerging opportunities in Europe for as long as deregulation and the introduction of competition in telecommunication services has been on the agenda within the European Union, with a focus on wireless technologies. Starting with satellite based services for data and then moving over to cellular based voice telephony, and most recently working with IP based wireless access networks he is very experienced in a range of alternative access technologies and their commercial potential. Combining a regulatory insight with a technical background and a commercial savvy has lead to the pursuit of several profitable ventures over the years. Mr Jarne has been instrumental in establishing several new ventures, among them a satellite service company called VESATEL, subsequently integrated into the Unisource Group as Unisource Satellite Services. He has also participated in the successful application and establishment of cellular operators in countries such as Italy and Hungary as well as regional licenses such as a GSM license in St Petersburg. Mr Jarne was also responsible for all wireless license applications and operations within Unisource Mobile, a company then owned by Telia, KPN, Swisscom and Telefonica. Prior to launching JSM AB, he held the position as Vice President Business Development, Formus Communications Europe BV, and CEO for Formus Communication Sweden AB, and managed the business development interests of Formus Communication Inc in Europe. Now as the founder and CEO of JSM AB he is advising both regional and national wireless operator on how to turn their business opportunities into profits. Also, as an advisor to international companies seeking a position in new markets, he has assisted and advised several companies in their entry strategy to the Swedish wireless market. Mr Jarne holds a M Sc in Applied Mathematics from Linköping Institute of Technology and a MBA in Business Administration from Stockholm University. He has also held several Board positions over the years, in different companies and in several different countries, among them France, Ireland, UK, Russia and Sweden.
