St. Martin's Centre was built upon the site of the old St. Martin's Church which had existed since it was founded in 1933. However, by the end of the nineties St. Martin's Church faced an uncertain future with the depopulation of Byker and the Indices of Multiple Deprivation being some of the lowest in the country (in the worst 10%). This, combined with a shrinking church congregation meant that changes were needed... St. Martin's Centre is a community centre, children's centre, nursery and church all on the same site. Whether you are a family with children, a young person, an older person or you simply wish to meet others from the local area we may have the groups and services here for you... No day is ever the same at St. Martin's Centre and we have a wide range of activities happening, from play sessions for under-fives, social groups and The Avenue Coffee Shop.
