BUCK LAKE ANIMAL HOSPITAL - Key Persons
Dr. Blair Anderson, our co-owner and supervisor here at Buck Lake Animal Hospital joined the Buck Lake team in January of 2017. Dr. Anderson sought her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, graduating in 2005. She then attended Tuskegee University where she graduated in 2009 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center where she rotated through internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, dermatology, surgery, critical care, and ophthalmology and became highly knowledgeable in internal medicine and dermatological issues in domestic pets.
After spending several years practicing medicine in Las Vegas, Dr. Varela and Dr. Anderson moved to Tallahassee in 2013. Together they have two children, Evan and Harrison. They also share their home with a black Labrador named "Bear," a pit bull mix named "Lou," a toy poodle named "Gigi," as well as a cat named "Twilight."
Dr. Carlos Varela, our co-owner and supervisor at Buck Lake Animal Hospital grew up on a farm which is where he first discovered his love for animals. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Animal Dairy and Poultry Science. He later went on to complete his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. His experience as a practicing veterinarian includes serving as chief of staff at a demanding five doctor practice in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as the veterinarian in charge of the aquatic species for one of the Vegas Strip casinos. He also assisted in caring for the large cats living in the lion habitat at a nearby major casino. He is experienced with soft tissue surgery as well as exotics.
