FERC SOFTWARE

FERC has recently announced that it is going to take a similar approach for power sale transaction data. In the near future FERC plans to discontinue the software that it currently provides and will require the industry to develop their own. FERC is currently planning on discontinuing its EQR software beginning with the Q3 2013 filing. While FERC is planning on providing online software, they have also given notice that the replacement online software that will be offered may not meet the needs of the industry and therefore third party software may be needed depending on the company's needs... In the past, FERC has acted as the regulator for the electric industry and as a software provider. FERC has recently announced that it is "getting out of the software business" and beginning to require utilities to develop their own software needed to submit compliance data to FERC.
