I am an apostle of interdisciplinary research. I have founded and led major interdisciplinary research centres and over the years I have spearheaded interdisciplinary initiatives and projects to utilise advances in Computer Science and digital technologies to address major global societal problems such as: smart cities, deliberative democracy, global governance, human security, urban planning, smart agriculture, risk management and emergency response. I have been actively involved in the UK's e-Science, e-Social Science and Digital Humanities and in EU's e-Infrasrtructures Programmes.
