Elizabeth joined our weight loss team in 2004, and she is the nursing coordinator for Dr. Britt. Elizabeth works with surgical and non-surgical weight loss patients during every step of their weight loss journey. In addition to pursuing specialized training in bariatric surgery, Elizabeth has earned the Lap-Band Total Care Champion designation as a result of her expertise in adjustable gastric banding for bariatric patients.
Bariatric surgeons, Dr. Groves and Dr. Britt work with the Surgical Support Team at Destination Weight Loss to perform weight loss surgery including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve & gastric band.
Dr. Groves, a native of Kentucky, began his college education at Alabama where he played football for Bear Bryant during his final season with the Crimson Tide of Alabama.
Dr. John Groves, a native of Kentucky, began his college education at Alabama where he played football for Bear Bryant during his final season with the Crimson Tide. Dr. Groves returned to Kentucky where he received his undergraduate degree from The University of Kentucky. He received his Medical Degree from the Louisville School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery residency at Baptist Montclair and Baptist Princeton in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Groves is board certified in general surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, active in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and has served as Chief of Surgery at Marshall Medical Center South.
Dr. John Groves moved to Albertville in 1998 where he founded Surgical Associates of Marshall County. He has built the practice by providing excellence in surgical care for Marshall County and the surrounding areas. His practice includes traditional general surgery in addition to the advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery procedures of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, ORBERA gastric balloon, and Overstitch, endoscopic suturing for bariatric revision.
In Dr. Groves' down time, he enjoys playing golf, spending time with his kids, and actively participating in his church functions and hosting Life Groups.
Dr. Britt is a native of Dunlap, Tennessee. He graduated summa cum laude from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Dr. Stephen Britt is a skilled, compassionate general and bariatric surgeon who is dedicated to improving the lives of people who struggle with chronic obesity through his work here at Destination Weight Loss. He is currently serving as the Chief of Surgery at both the Marshall Medical Center North and the Medical Director of the Marshall Wound Healing Center.
Dr. Stephen Britt completed his general surgery residency at UT Chattanooga, where he gained valuable experience in all areas of general surgery and the related sub-specialties. Because UT Chattanooga is a designated Level I Trauma Center, graduates from this renowned program are well-equipped to provide exceptional surgical care to a wide variety of patients, including those dealing with complex co-morbid conditions related to obesity.
