Amy Kirschenbauer - CEO

Amy brings over 23 years of business development experience from serving many clients as owner and CEO of Smart Business and holding capture and proposal management positions at Booz Allen Hamilton and CGI Federal. Her company operates at the forefront of the federal acquisitions marketplace. As a process and efficiency expert, she helps transform chaos into order to help generate revenue, profits, and a sustainable business. To help businesses respond to the continually emerging and changing requirements in the government marketplace, Amy offers tailored solutions through Business Development Consulting, Capture and Proposal Management, Oral Proposal Coaching, and Professional Training.

Kurt Thompson - President

As the President of Smart Business Strategic Network, Kurt is responsible for new business development and strategy while overseeing operations of the firm. Kurt comes to Smart Business Strategic Network with a wide-range of experience. Kurt has previously served as CEO of a DC-based venture firm, President and owner-operator of a family-owned supermarket, as well as roles in finance and nonprofit consulting. Kurt received his BA in History and Political Science from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and received his Executive MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis in 2014. Kurt has served on countless boards and committees throughout his career. Kurt lives in Alexandria, VA with his wife, Kristin. He enjoys most outdoor activities including running, biking, and boating.

Michael Harris

Job Titles:
  • Director of Business Development
Mike brings over 30 years of experience as Technical Writer/Trainer, Proposal Writer/Manager and Entrepreneur. During his tenure with Qwest Government Services, now CenturyLink, he was one of four proposal writers. He is appreciated across the board for his expertise, smart interface with subject matter experts, and conformance with federal proposal evaluator requirements. He brings an entrepreneurial spirit and servant-based leadership to his team members and clients. He is also a Life Coach and experienced Proposal Manager. Mike's success in proposal writing follows his achievements in the US Navy and Naval Reserve. During his years in the Reserves in San Jose, his role as Training Coordinator and Platform Instructor brought him recognition as Reserve Center Sailor of the Year. Michael's forte really is other people' success. So, when he was offered the position as Director of Business Development for Smart Business Strategic Network, he quickly accepted the challenge. He sees his core contributions as helping other companies identify their proposal capture and preparation strengths AND weaknesses and to help fill in the gaps through the Smart Biz team.
