Crohn's disease was named after Dr. Burrill B. Crohn in 1932. Crohn's disease belongs in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Crohn's disease usually affects the small bowel. Crohn's most commonly affects the end of the small bowel (the ileum) and the beginning of the colon, but it may affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, from the mouth to the anus"("National Digestive Diseases"). Crohn's Disease is considered to be an inflammatory bowel disease. Inflammatory bowel disease is a general name for a group of diseases that causes inflammation and irritation in the intestines.
