Adrian K. Dixon

Adrian K. Dixon was Master of Peterhouse, the oldest College in the University of Cambridge, from 2008-2016, where he is now Emeritus Professor of Radiology. He was previously head of the University Department of Radiology for 15 years until 2009 and retired as an honorary consultant radiologist in September 2014 after a 35 year spell as a consultant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. He served as Editor of the journal Clinical Radiology from 1998 to 2002, Editor-In-Chief of European Radiology 2007-2013 and Warden of the Faculty of Clinical Radiology of the RCR from 2002 to 2006. He was awarded Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 1998.

Andy Bruce

Dr Kanchan Rege Thrasher

Dr Kanchan Rege Thrasher is Associate Medical Director of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, having previously held the role of Executive Director. While in the Chief Medical Officer role, her focus areas have been medical education, research and development, health inequalities, Emergency Planning, Medico-legal services, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. She is also Chair of East of England Medical Directors' Forum and remains a practicing Consultant Haematologist.

Dr Lorna Williamson

Lorna is a haematologist specialising in Transfusion Medicine. After 20 years as an academic clinician in Cambridge, she became national Medical and Research Director of NHS Blood and Transplant. She has held many national and international advisory roles on transfusion safety and research, and has recently been Clinical Director for Communications to the Royal College of Pathologists. She is currently a Non-Executive Board member of the Human Tissue Authority and a Fellow Commoner of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.

Dr Richard Lewis

Dr Thomas Round

Dr Ultan McDermott

Formally at the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a clinician scientist, he remains a practicing Consultant Oncologist, with a focus on colorectal cancer at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

Fiona Bickley - COO

As COO Fiona supports the Chief Executive in managing the charity's activities, and has particular responsibility for team and culture, legal and governance matters, and risk management. Fiona was formerly a charity lawyer both in a London law firm and in-house at the British Red Cross. Fiona is a trustee of the London Community Foundation and External Adviser to the Appointments Panel of the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.

Fiona Miller Smith - CEO

Fiona's early career was in investment banking and private equity before becoming CEO of three high-growth organisations. She developed and sold these, creating both economic and social value. Fiona joined Barts Charity from Social Finance, an FCA regulated impact investing organisation, where she was Director and COO. As CEO, Fiona is responsible for ensuring that the charity balances risk, liquidity and return in the management of its endowment to achieve its target return. Working closely with key stakeholders, trustees and the senior management team, Fiona is responsible for delivering on the charity's vision, mission and strategic objectives. Fiona is Chair of Baronsmead Venture Trust plc, Chair Lifting Limits and Trustee of John Lyons Foundation.

Ian Hart

Ian is Co-Chair of UK Investment Banking at UBS. From July 2021 Ian is on a two year secondment as Director General of the Takeover Panel. He is a qualified chartered accountant and has previously worked at Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.

Ilia Ralphs

Ilia has been a major gifts fundraiser with the charity since 2008 and has many years experience of raising funds from trusts and foundations, individual donors and corporates. Ilia has also worked on a number of major appeal campaigns. Before joining the charity, Ilia worked in TV production.

Jean Murphy

Jean has spent her career in wealth management roles at a number of city firms such as Goldman Sachs, ACPI Investments Ltd and Morgan Stanley. She now leads her own wealth advisory business providing investment consultancy and management services. She is also a member of the Investment Committee of Jesus College Cambridge.

Jo Morgan

As Operations Director for the Clinical Research Facility, Jo leads the Barts Health specialist team to deliver early phase and experimental medicine research. Jo also provides leadership and management at the existing clinical research facilities at The Royal London and Whipps Cross hospitals. As a former Associate Director of Research, Jo provided support to specialties to develop and build their research portfolio.

Kieran McCafferty

Kieran McCafferty has been appointed the Director of the new NIHR Barts Heath Clinical Research Facility. As well as this, he is a Consultant Nephrologist at Barts Health NHS Trust and honorary Senior Lecturer at QMUL. His focus is developing and delivering clinical trials at a national and international level; delivering on 60 NIHR portfolio trials since 2015. He is a national leader in the field of renal research and holds a number of roles including the divisional director of research for specialist medicine at Barts Health, deputy National NIHR renal lead, chair of the London Kidney Network Prevention workstream, and co-chair of the UK Kidney Research Council CKD study group.​

Mirela Delibegovic

Professor Mirela Delibegovic is Dean for Industrial Engagement in Research and Knowledge Transfer and Chair at the Institute of Medical Sciences University of Aberdeen. As a pharmacologist, Professor Delibegovic focuses on how ageing and poor nutrition lead to development of diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and other age-associated co-morbidities. She is also Chair of the Diabetes UK RD Lawrence Fellowship and Grants Committees, on the Advisory Board of the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation and Vice-Chair of British Heart Foundation Project Grants Committee.

Miss Laura Johnson

Laura Johnson is the Network Director for breast surgery at Barts Health. She runs a busy clinical practice on the St Bartholomew's Hospital site, taking a personalised approach to each patient's treatment plan and advocating patient-focused, joint decision-making.  She has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of implant related anaplastic large cell lymphoma and is considered a UK expert in this rare disease.

Prabhakar Sundaresan

Prabhakar joined us from St Luke's Hospice (Harrow & Brent) where he was the Director responsible for Finance, Facilities, and the Retail Business. Prior to that, Prabhakar spent 20 years at Standard Chartered Bank in various roles including Treasury and Capital Markets before moving into the charity sector in 2018. At Standard Chartered Bank, Prabhakar was on the Managing Committee of ‘Seeing is Believing', a charity with the mission to treat avoidable blindness and visual impairment. Prabhakar is also the Treasurer of Glaucoma UK, which is a charity aimed at helping people with Glaucoma.

Sally Flanagan

Victoria King

Victoria oversees all of Barts Charity's grant funding. She joined us from the Wellcome Trust, where Victoria was Head of Science Strategy Delivery and led the development, delivery and review of Wellcome's science strategy. Before joining Wellcome in 2012, Victoria spent a year at Central and East London NIHR Comprehensive Local Research Network and was previously Head of Research at Diabetes UK. Prior to working in grant strategy and management, Victoria undertook a PhD in biochemistry focused on cellular signalling pathways. Victoria is currently Chair of Trustee Board for Guts UK.
