Cynthia Negrete

Ms. Negrete was born and raised in Salinas, California where she currently resides. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento and Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Monterey College of Law. Ms. Negrete first joined the Law Offices of Lawrence & Peck as a Law Clerk in July 2016. She is presently the 2023 President of the Monterey County Bar Association and previously served as the board's Secretary from 2019-2021. Ms. Negrete brings with her the passion and determination to protect the rights of those who have been criminally charged and who are potentially facing the most difficult time in their life.

Juliet Peck

Juliet Peck graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1994. She is a fixture in the criminal courts of Monterey County. Juliet is known by her colleagues as a tenacious, assertive and creative criminal defense attorney. From 1995 to 2006 she worked as a deputy public defender in Monterey County, where she represented hundreds of clients and was counsel in several high profile cases. Juliet has brought her 11 years of public defender experience to her practice at the Law Offices of Lawrence & Peck. She fiercely represents the rights of her clients including public officials, law enforcement officers, her many former public defender clients and others from all backgrounds. Her determination and honesty has won her the respect of the legal community. Juliet is a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, California Public Defender's Association, Monterey County Women Lawyers Association and Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County. In 2012, Juliet was President of the Monterey County Bar Association and she continues to serve on that Board as an Officer. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the 6th District Appellate Program (SDAP), which oversees indigent appellate representation in the 6th District, encompassing Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Santa Clara Counties. In addition, she serves as a member of the Monterey County Bar Foundation and the Monterey College of Law.

Michael Lawrence

For over four decades, Michael Lawrence has been recognized as one of the most respected and effective trial attorneys in Monterey County. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Lewis C. Fenton Award, which is the Monterey County Bar Association's most prestigious award for excellence in trial advocacy. He has successfully handled many high profile cases including representing elected officials accused of theft and embezzlement as well as police officers and other political officials. Michael has aggressively defended thousands of people and tried scores of jury trials ranging from capital murder to simple misdemeanors during a career spanning over forty years. Michael graduated from Hastings College of the Law, University of California, in 1968. He then worked as a staff attorney with the Riverside Public Defenders Office, and was a partner in the Riverside law firm of Hennigan, Butterwick, and Clepper. He arrived in Monterey County in 1972 and accepted a position as an attorney with the Monterey County Public Defender's Office. Three years later, in 1975, he became the Assistant Public Defender. In 1979, he was appointed the Chief Public Defender of Monterey County by the Board of Supervisors, running the Public Defender's Office for 27 years. He was California's longest-serving chief public defender. Michael is a member of the Monterey County Bar Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the California Public Defenders Association.
