Amy Scheuren

Amy Scheuren (Treasurer) is a graduate of St. Joseph's University, a Jesuit university in Philadelphia and received a Masters of Social Service and a Masters of Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr College. She first studied Spanish and volunteered in Xela in 2005 as part of ​Pop Wuj's Social Work Program. Following several years of volunteer trips to Xela to work as the Guarderia/Family Support Center Coordinator, Amy served as the Pop Wuj coordinator from 2012 to 2016. Amy joined the board of Foundation Todos Juntos in 2006.

Becky Lomax-Sumner

Becky Lomax-Sumner traveled to Guatemala many times after retiring from a career working in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. Working with 32 Volcanes and a team of medical professionals, they provided medical care to the people of the Western Highlands. Helping the underserved is her passion and she feels that she can contribute to 32 Volcanes here at home by working with Foundation Todos Juntos. She was honored to be asked to join the Foundation Todos Juntos Board of Directors in 2022. In her spare time, Becky enjoys traveling, birding, hiking and traveling to find rare birds.

Catherine Cairns

Catherine Cairns is a public health professional who works on a health equity initiative for the federal government. She has served in infectious disease programs and as Chief of Staff for the Boston Public Health Commission. She has also worked to enhance public health policies and programs across the United States through work at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and as a consultant with Hager Health. She received her MPH from Tufts University School of Medicine. Catherine was introduced to the clinic and community in Xela, Guatemala as a volunteer on a Timmy Foundation medical brigade. She was honored to join the board of Foundation Todos Juntos in February 2020.

Dave Smith

Job Titles:
  • Retired Management Consultant
Dave Smith, B.A. and C.G.A., is a retired management consultant who spent his career as an industrial accountant in the forest industry. He is also a past president of the Ribbons of Green Trails Society, is treasurer for the Vernon Community Music School, and is involved with an NGO in Tanzania. Aside from spending four winters with his wife in Xela volunteering with the Safe Stove Project, Dave can be found gardening, cycling, backpacking, playing the piano, and talking politics at the Bean Scene. With a respect for the Mayan people and a belief in the value of education as a tool for helping people rise from poverty, Dave joined the Foundation Todos Juntos board in January 2012.

Elizabeth Barnes

Elizabeth Barnes (Secretary) is an alumna of The University of Texas at Austin and AmeriCorps who first interacted with Foundation Todos Juntos as an intern at Asociación Pop Wuj in 2015. Taking over from Amy Scheuren, she served as the Pop Wuj Coordinator from April 2016 to June 2017. In her two years in Xela she worked hands-on in all of Pop Wuj's projects, visited all the Western Highland communities where Pop Wuj operates, and got to know hundreds of project participants and supporters. Elizabeth was eager to join Foundation Todos Juntos board of directors to stay connected with its mission. Elizabeth is now living in Austin, Texas.

Ginger Lee

Ginger Lee, DrPH, MPH (President) is a public health professional with a doctorate in Global Health Leadership. With equity, social justice and alleviation of poverty as the central themes of her work, Ginger Lee has more than 20 years of experience leading community-based population health initiatives. Her combination of academic training, lived experience growing up in low-income communities, and professional experience inform her approach to program planning, monitoring, evaluation, and research. Ginger helped to build Latino Health Access, an award-winning non-profit organization that works deeply within communities affected by inequalities to build power using the community health worker and Healthy Cities models. She was the CEO of The LGBTQ Center OC for four years, quadrupling growth with a focus on effective programs and policy changes. She also served two years as CEO of one of the largest health and human services non-profit organizations in southern Oregon. She has managed city government health department operations, as well as collective impact and equity programs. Ginger has received numerous awards and recognition for her work, including One of Five Mujeres Making a Difference in Orange County. She is a founder of the Greater Los Angeles Female Genital Mutilation Task Force. She is published in peer reviewed journals, and is the co-author of Recruiting the Heart, Training the Brain (2016, English; 2018, Spanish).

Shanti Aguilar-Cárdenas

Shanti Aguilar-Cárdenas (Vice President) was thrilled to join the Foundation Todos Juntos Board in November 2020 to continue to support the work of 32 Volcanes, after several years of collaboration in diverse ways. Shanti is deeply connected to the 32 Volcanes community driven mission and first learned about their work as an intern in January - April 2014. Shanti received her BA in International Development Studies from the University of Winnipeg in Canada and her passion for working in Latin America is rooted in her Guatemalan heritage. She is a global health professional who has spent the majority of her career directing the programs of one of 32 Volcanes's longtime partners, Timmy Global Health, in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. She currently works for Yoga Alliance Foundation as a Program Coordination Consultant and outside of the office, she can be found hiking, birding, and playing with her dog, Yogi.
